2022 NRL Round 2 Predictions – Alternative Tips
Short on inspiration already? Or looking for that edge to your tipping that no one else in your competition has? Well here are the Alternative NRL Tips for this round.
This week’s alternative tips is a pretty absurd, but it’s early in the season and anything can happen.
Having looked at last week’s results, we noticed that a lot of teams won because their nickname/team animal was more deadly than the other. So why not let that ride and use them as the alternative tips for Round Two.
It’s all subjective of course, some are obvious like a Storm being more dangerous than a rabbit or Rabbitoh. And a fire breathing dragon would make pretty light work of a Panther. And an eel would be not much of a match for a shark. But a Bronco more dangerous than a bulldog? Well the dog wouldn’t be well if the horse kicked backwards in its face. Maybe a Cowboy would beat a Raider, although probably not.

2022 NRL Round 2 Barely Interesting Stats
MELBOURNE-SOUTHS IS THE MOST ONE SIDED FIXTURE IN THE NRL
Round Two kicks off with the Storm taking on South Sydney, which also doubles as the most one sided fixture in the NRL currently. And by a fair way. But instead of just picking on the Rabbitohs woeful record, we have the most lop sided fixtures below, with all games included where one side has a win strike rate of 70% or more. The Storm own a lot of them.
MATCH BY MATCH BARELY INTERESTING STATS
- As above Souths record v Melbourne in general is the worst in the NRL. But their away record to the Storm is even worse. 17 games away since 1998 and 17 losses.
- Penrith have won the last four games in a row v the Dragons. Prior to that the Dragons had won four in a row.
- Penrith have lost 2/3 games at Kogarah since 1998.
- Going back 10 seasons – the Dragons have won just five of 21 games v Sydney opposition on a Friday.
- Manly have won 5/6 games v Roosters on a Friday. Roosters have lost 8/10 of the last Friday games they have played v all opposition.
- Gold Coast have lost five games in a row v Warriors on a Saturday and nine of their last ten. The Titans have won three of their last four at home to the Warriors.
- Parramatta have lost six in a row v Sydney clubs. Although three times of the six, Premiers Penrith were the winners.
- The Cowboys have lost their last five home games v Sydney sides. They have lost nine of their last ten v Sydney sides.
- Wests Tigers have won four of the last five at Newcastle.
- It’s been 10 years since the Bulldogs and Brisbane have met on a Sydney.
- The Bulldogs win on Sunday in Townsville ended a seven game losing streak against all Queensland opposition.
