With the NRL starting back tonight, scores of women are set to lose their husbands and boyfriends for the next six months.
One such woman has decided to use this to her advantage.
Kate Deschey, the wife of tragic Broncos fan Terry, has started her own female-only social group: The G.A.W.O.S.F.F Book Club.
“G.A.W.O.S.F.F stands for ‘Girlfriends and Wives of Stupid Footy Fans'” said Kate. “Basically I’ve set up a Zoom meeting every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night for long-suffering G.A.W.O.S.F.F’s. While I’ve called it a ‘book’ club, I only added it to sound classy: there’s f***-all reading involved, a shitload of wine, and a lot of goss and venting about what a waste of time footy is. Terry will be so involved in the stupid game that he won’t care how much noise I make in the spare room.”
Though starting out as a Zoom meeting, Kate is hoping to extend it to more exciting activities. “Hopefully it’ll take off and we can meet up and go to the movies, go to a bar, have some big dinners, and the more active girls can go for an evening run or play some social sport. Those girls assure me their wine tastes better after a getting their sweat on. Anything to get away from the bloody footy!”
Everyday News tried to get in touch with Terry for a response, but he was too busy watching the 2021 NRL season highlights on YouTube to pump himself up for the new season.
