WINTER OLYMPICS
One of the bigger sporting events this year is the Winter Olympics, and it is a polariser (pardon the ice-based pun). Some look at it as a magnificent rare treat of exciting sport mostly sponsored by Red Bull. Others see a bunch of events they know not much about, scored by some magic formula, full of gnarly people. But here are our Bold Predictions none-the-less.
- That broadcasters will boldly declare this Winter Olympics to be the greatest ever.
- Steven Bradbury will trend for a few weeks.
- That the few Australians paying any attention to the Winter Olympics will fall in love with our only mmmmmmmedalist, and a few months later will ask who they are when they are flogging health food in TV ads. Maybe Krill Oil pills.
FOOTBALL
It’s a big year for football with the World Cup being the premium footballing event. If not the biggest sporting event in the world in 2022. Of course coming in November for the first time ever, from the football HQ that is Qatar.
Before then there’s all the big European leagues to eventually finish, Covid dependent of course.
For now, here are our bold sporting predictions for 2022 for football.
- England will be knocked out of the World Cup on penalties in the Semi Finals.
- France will continue the trend of the holders getting knocked out early. And we’ll throw in a pre tournament training ground bust up too.
- Australia won’t get a point at the World Cup. If they make it.
- Somehow Qatar will progress to the next stage.
- Adebayo Akinfenwa will lead Wycombe into the Championship again, so will un-retire to keep entertaining the people.
MOTOR RACING
F1 had arguably it’s most interesting season ever in 2021, so 2022 has a lot of work to do.
Another serving of Lewis Hamilton v Max Verstappen would be good, but no one is sure yet Lewis Hamilton is coming back.
Not to be outdone by the drivers and teams, the F1 governing body have all new car rules in 2022 to promote better racing. Heard that one before…..
- Lewis Hamilton will quit mid season.
- The new F1 cars won’t improve overtaking.
NRL
We have already done a whole bunch of 2022 NRL Predictions here, but it is another big year ahead for rugby league.
There’s a big season ahead which will hopefully be a bit smoother sailing in 2022. Then there’s the World Cup at the end of the season, followed the 2023 entry of the Redcliffe Dolphins.
- The NRL will implement a temporary group of security guards to guard the NRL Trophy in post Grand Final celebrations.
- Covid will see the NRL have their best off field season ever.
CRICKET
It’s been a good start to 2022 for Australian Cricket fans, with Australia pulling England’s pants down, but what else can we see is going to happen in 2022 in Cricket.
- Fox Cricket will continue their agenda of that the commentators are the most important thing. We have an Everyday News story where one punter wasn’t fooled by Fox Cricket.
- Shane Warne will still be a pig headed, arrogant pr!ck.
- The Big Bash will become even less interesting. And probably with more irrelevant games, and a finals series that captures all eight teams instead of the current five.
GENERAL SPORTS
We have run out of steam at this point, so we got lazy and have come up with short, sharp bold sporting predictions for 2022 to round out the season’s tips.
