While the 2021/22 Ashes have only just finished, Fox Cricket is already planning for the 2022/23 Test summer, with Shane Warne set for an exciting new role.
Frustrated by the backlash from Warne’s ‘old man yells at cloud’ criticism of a handful of Australian players – especially his personal vendetta against Mitchell Starc – the Fox top brass have reassigned Warne to a special comments role.
Starting with the 2022/23 Test series, Warne will be hosting the Warney’s Spin Vision segment. Similar to Trent Copeland on Channel Seven, Warne will have his own studio, complete with artificial cricket pitch, where he’ll have long segments multiple times a day analysing the techniques of Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Swepson, and any overseas spinners who haven’t been slogged out of the series yet.
“Part of this relocation was Warne’s fascinating leg-spin masterclass with Skull [Kerry O’Keefe], which was absolute ratings gold!” said a Fox Cricket spokesbot. “For all the ego-driven agendas Warney has, it’s easy to forget he’s the world’s greatest spin bowler, so we thought we’d put his specialist knowledge to good use. Warney was reluctant at first, but we soothed his ego by saying he’ll have the viewers’ complete attention multiple times during the day. When he’s not on camera, he can do whatever he likes, and we mean anything, as long as he cleans up the studio when he’s done.”
One Fox Cricket commentator – who preferred not to be named – was relieved they don’t have to put up with Warne’s painful ‘matey’ banter. “I hate commentating with Warney; he thinks he’s a comedian and tries to be your best mate. I don’t care what your favourite pizza topping is, Warney, just call the bloody cricket!”
