NRL Round 18 Tips Alternative – Gurgler v Queensland + Barely Interesting Stats

NRL one day, Queensland the next. The NRL is moving to Queensland due to Covid, and so our Alternative NRL Round 18 Tips for this weekend go a little sub-tropical.

Each week we offer up some alternative NRL tips based on a new theme, and occasionally it will have nothing to do with rugby league. Just the way we like it. This week it is about each team’s record in Queensland since 1998.

In addition to the tips are a whole bunch of barely interesting stats for the round of NRL ahead. Impress your neighbours, parcel delivery drivers, and fellow relatives by stealing them and sharing, but please do so whilst maintaining social distance.

Good luck with your Alternative NRL Round 18 Tips if you choose to use them.

NRL Round 18 Tips – Barely Interesting Stats

  • Parramatta have won four in a row v Gold Coast. They have also beaten Queensland teams their last four games on a Friday.
  • The Titans have won one game a season v Sydney teams at home from 2018. Since they have already beaten the Bulldogs at home this season, their record says no more home wins v Sydney teams. Which is a worry given they’ve all moved up here.
  • The last time Manly played a Covid affected side they won 66-0.
  • St George Illawarra have won six of their last seven clashes with Manly.
  • Both Manly and the Dragons have a better than 50% winning record in Queensland since 2018.
  • Canberra are on a five game winning run over the Sharks.
  • 11 of Canberra’s 16 games this season have been on a Saturday. Shame they’ve only won three. But it’s better than the Sharks recent Saturday record, winning just one of their last eight games.
  • Going back 12 Games to 2005 this is the pattern of Cowboys results at home to the Roosters (most recent games first) LWLWLWLWLWLW, so Cowboys are due a win.
  • The Roosters have lost just four of their last 32 games on a Saturday going back to 2018.
  • Melbourne have won nine in a row against Newcastle and 16 of their last 18 at home back to 2005.
  • The Storm haven’t lost a home to a Sydney side since 2019 – 13 games ago.
  • Newcastle have won just three of their 13 away games on a Saturday since 2019. All three were at neutral grounds.
  • Warriors have lost five in a row in Queensland. Penrith have won five in a row.
  • Although more likely to be the cause of very few home games on a Sunday and Channel Nein….going back to August 2009 the Broncos have lost just once in 12 matches at home on a Sunday against Sydney opposition.
  • Bulldogs have lost eight in a row at Suncorp Stadium and eight in a row in Queensland.
  • Souths have won eight of their last nine games in Queensland going back to 2019.
