In case you have some excitement left after this week’s State of Origin opener we offer up our Alternative NRL Round 15 Tips for this week.
Each week we offer up some alternative NRL tips based on a new theme, and occasionally it will have nothing to do with rugby league. Just the way we like it. This week it is another State of Origin based tipping method, this time it’s about which club has produced the most players in Origin since 2010.
In addition to the tips are a whole bunch of barely interesting stats for the round of NRL ahead. Impress your neighbours, parcel delivery drivers, and fellow passengers by stealing them and sharing.
Good luck with your Alternative NRL Round 15 Tips if you choose to use them.

NRL Round 15 Tips Alternative – Gurgler v Post Origin 1 Form
So here are this week’s alternative tips. The method to how it works is below.
METHOD TO THE MADNESS
We found the lists of every State of Origin since 2010 and captured the club they played for and came up with a total of players that have come from each side.
Of course there’s bias towards the Queensland based teams, and goes against the recent success of Penrith, so really using this is a pretty poor method for tipping given how good they are going, but we’re gonna stick with it.
Our theory is that Origin pedigree will lead to winning more in an Origin period. So the team with the most players represented since 2010 gets the tip.

NRL Round 15 Tips – Barely Interesting Stats
- Brisbane have lost ten Thursday games in a row. Their last Thursday win coming in August 2019 against the Cowboys and last one at home in July 2019 against the Bulldogs. Oh, and it’s 17 losses in their last 19 Thursday games.
- South Sydney have won 13 of their last 15 against Queensland opposition.
- Cowboys have lost six straight to the Sharks and 10 of their last 12.
- Cowboys are on a five game winning streak at home currently. Two of their last three wins have been by a point.
- In a neat little coincidental statistic, two of the last three Sharks games (which they have won) have also been decided by one point.
- Penrith have only beaten the Roosters twice on a Friday since 1998 – once last season and another in 2004.
- Despite losing two in a row the Panthers home record of wins is still going. It is currently 21 games without defeat and the last loss goes back to July 2019.
- The Roosters have lost five consecutive away games against the current top eight clubs.
- Going back to 2001 Canberra have won 13 of 15 home games v Dragons.
- Melbourne have won all seven games at the Sunshine Coast Stadium. They’re also on a winning streak of 23 games in Queensland. Wests Tigers Qld record isn’t as good but seven wins in their last ten games is pretty good.
- Parramatta have lost every second home game this season against Sydney opposition. The Eels won their last one….
- Gold Coast have won three of their last 15 at home to Sydney teams.
NRL Round 15 Tips – Barely Interesting Visuals
Aside from the weekly barely interesting facts are a few visuals that we came up with while looking at the match by match stats.
While digging up the stats for State of Origin players by club, we thought we’d run it through the below visual to show the progress or pattern of State of Origin players by club.
