NRL Round 14 Tips – Barely Interesting Stats

  • Manly have won all three clashes against the Cowboys since 1998 on a Friday. Manly scored a consistent 22,26,24 in those games while the Cowboys scored a palindromic 12,21,12.
  • Cowboys have lost their last six away trips on a Friday and have not won since May 2018 in Bathurst against the Panthers.
  • Sharks have won eight of their last nine home matches on a Friday.
  • Penrith’s only regular season loss in 2020 was in an away game to a fellow Sydney side, and last week registered their first loss of the season after playing an away game to a fellow Sydney team on a Friday night. Going back to 2018 they have won 1/7 on a Friday v Sydney team away. Overall since 1998 the winning % is just 11.6%. Their away Friday night record isn’t much better at 24%.
  • Gold Coast have won just four of the 20 home matches played against Sydney teams since 2018.
  • Roosters are on a six game winning streak v Gold Coast. And five in a row on a Saturday going back to 2012.
  • Souths have lost just three home games on a Saturday against NSW sides since 2010. Although those three losses have come in the last three seasons.
  • Newcastle’s last six away games follow a pattern and mean victory this weekend – (most recent game first) LLWLLW.
  • Canberra have lost five games in a row at home, their opposition have scored 34 three times in that run and there’s 1 x 35 points conceded also. The other game saw them concede 24 points which isn’t quite as interesting.
  • Brisbane have won two of their 18 away games since the start of 2020.
  • Melbourne have won ten in a row against the Warriors.
  • But there is hope – the Warriors games v Melbourne on a Sunday follow a pattern. Most recent result first – LLLWWLLLWWLLL
  • Parramatta have lost their last three games on a Sunday to Sydney opposition. And their scores have halved each time 24->12->6. So that means a loss with three points this weekend then.
  • Parramatta are on a six match winning streak v Wests Tigers.
  • Wests Tigers have won their last five away games on a Sunday to Sydney opposition. Four of those five opponents have been the St George Illawarra Dragons.

NRL Round 14 Tips – Barely Interesting Visuals

Aside from the weekly barely interesting facts are a few visuals that we came up with while looking at the match by match stats.

The first is a follow up to the weekly tips – best record after State of Origin #1 by team. And for once Melbourne does have best record for something.

The we were wondering which day is more likely to see an away team win a game, so we have those stats since 1998.

After that while trying to find something barely interesting for the Dragons-Bulldogs clash we wondered if it was the lowest scoring fixture of all. It wasn’t. So we threw in the top and bottom ten matches by average of total points scored per game.
