WOODEN SPOONERS | The Footy Fans’ Lifeline

The NRL has launched a new fans helpline, just in time for the Easter long weekend.

The We was Robbed support line will be available for fans to anonymously vent if their teams cops a bad decision or generally plays like a busted arse.

A faceless NRL intern, who was roped into this interview with The Gurgler, said the combination of call centre and live chat will hopefully cut down on fans clogging social media with their insane rants and baseless conspiracy theories.

“The call centre and live chat areas are designed to help fans get their anger out of their system straight after the game, thus allowing them to carry on with their real lives,” said the intern.

“I remember reading all the bile from pissed-off Raiders fans after their loss to the Warriors, which bled on into Monday and Tuesday. I knew it was starting to get silly when some fans posted pictures of Henry Perenara in his Warriors playing days. With this call centre, fans can vent as loudly and as angrily as they want. If you don’t like talking on the phone, there’s a super-fast Live Chat system on the ‘We was Robbed’ website.”

The call centre will operate from 8pm Thursday night to midnight Sunday night for every weekend of the NRL season, up until grand final night. It will be staffed by student counsellers, who will appreciate the experience with real-world clients.

“For these student counsellors, dealing with people with actual problems will be a breeze after a season of listening to footy fans whinge about their teams losing. And unlike Facebook, we’re not going to judge people if they swear a lot. Our team has thick skins and are prepared to hear every word under the sun.”
