Fantasy Premier League FPL GW9 – CAPTAIN’S TABLE
Here we assemble the finest stats we can think of to get the best picture of who should wear the armband for your team.
It is a mix of current FPL form, historical goal scoring and assist form v opponents, relative FPL performance per their cost and the difficulty of their upcoming game designed by our in house difficulty ratings system.
Each category is given a weighting, and points assigned relative to that high point. Each category score is totaled for he final score.
The final score is out of 100, with that high mark being a rare occurrence of aligning suns, moons and planets of FPL.
Son and Kane drop down the Captain’s table as they are playing tougher opposition, and are at home where they haven’t been quite as effective. That said, Son is still second on our Captain’s Table and Harry Kane sixth.
Jack Grealish tops the table, and rightly so after his performance v Arsenal and a decent showing for England. Brighton at home should be a winnable game, although Villa have lost two and shipped seven goals in their last two home games.
Jamie Vardy is an interesting one. You could write him off as they are playing Liverpool, but he has a decent scoring records against them, and Liverpool will have a makeshift defense that he can take advantage of.
Bruno Fernandes was Man Utd last game out v Everton, and on paper v West Brom you’d normally be rubbing your hands together in anticipation of a big FPL. But Man Utd are terrible at home this season in the league, and not great against the lower sides. But Bruno is still Bruno and will be a factor.
Chelsea go to Newcastle and with Ziyech and Werner in decent form you have a few captain choices there. Werner scored during the international break and Ziyech looks more like the key signing Chelsea needed with each game. Issue will be if Newcastle can stop them from dominating. They did slow down Everton at teir last home game.
Our Tip: Grealish / Ziyech – Grealish is in super form, got to prove his worth for England during the week, and have a easy fixture on paper v Brighton. Ziyech is in good form too, but Chelsea’s record in Newcastle isn’t great.

Fantasy Premier League FPL GW9 – POINTS PER COST – OVER/UNDER
A new data addition this season, and included in our Captain’s table is an attempt to check a player’s point scoring value, and relative to his peers.
So we take the overall FPL points scored and divide by their cost to get a figure. One we have used for the captain’s table from last season.
We then take it a step further a determine a figure for each position and band of a million FPL cost. E.g. a midfielder costing between 6.0 and 6.9 would be classed as a MID6.
A final comparison is made for each player’s Points per Cost to the standard set by the position-cost band and whether they are under or over. And the % over or under.
It’s an alternative way to see over or under performance to the cost.
The first visuals below show the top ten for each position and then the relative over/under performance with their current cost and the size of the bubble is % of ownership.
The next visuals have been split into the top 20 players for each position based on current FPL total points,.
