With the Melbourne Storm making their fourth grand final in five years, passionate Storm fans are getting ready.
One of them is Peter Ferguson, the creator of the True Blue Storm Rugby Fans Facebook page.
“I was watching the Port v Richmond game last night and saw on Facebook that the Storm had made the Rugby Grand Final, so I created the True Blue page to get people excited. I wrote: ‘The mighty Stormers have made the Rugby Grand Final. Get around the boys! ‘I haven’t had any responses so far, but there’s still a week to go.“
While Peter is a lifelong Collingwood Magpies fan, he says that he “switches over to the Rugby” when the Pies are losing.
“At first I enjoyed all the lineouts and the kicking, much like real footy; then I realised I was watching a Wallabies game. I eventually found a Storm game to watch, but it’s pretty much the same as the other Rugby. I kind of lost interest after that, at least until last night.”
However Peter’s plans to watch the Storm changed with an unexpected phone call.
“A mate of mine’s a mad-keen Tiges [Richmond] fan, he’s got tickets, and we’re going to sneak into Queensland to go to the footy grand final. So bugger the Rugby, I’m taking an RDO on the Monday for a pissed up boys’ long weekend. I’ll be too wrecked to care about the Storm anyway.”
The True Blue Storm Rugby Fans Facebook page was deactivated soon after.
