Fantasy Premier League 2020-21 FPL GW2 Preview & Stats

A new season of Fantasy Premier League has started, and already any FPL that didn’t have Mo Salah and/or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are preparing to hit the panic button, so hopefully our 2020-21 FPL GW2 Preview is ready to help out.

At least the Manchester clubs join this game week to make the right decisions even harder.

Before each Fantasy Premier League game week we supply a bunch of statistics to help the keen FPL make a decision or two.

The most popular has been our Captain’s Table, which combines some key statistics to help make that crucial captain choice.

We also have our all new Captain Planner for the entire 2020-21 FPL season.

With only one partial week of 2020-21 data to offer up yet, we’have a mix of new data and 2019-20 data.

For now, enjoy the our 2020-21 FPL GW2 Preview.

2020-21 FPL GW2 PREVIEW – CAPTAIN’S TABLE

Here we assemble the finest stats we can think of to get the best picture of who should wear the armband for your team.

With no current data to use all of the stats relate to the 19/20 Premier League season, with a mix of total FPL points from last season and the post restart period. As well as cutting the FPL points per game and per $M. Plus there’s the player’s record against each club, and each player’s club fixture difficulty.

From next week this will include 2020-21 stats when every team has had a chance to play.

Our captain’s table is still not perfect yet, using only 2019-20 data, which is why KDB tops the table for this week. Although, he probably will still be on top of the Captain’s table in four months time. Whilst there’s no doubt over KDB, the concern is their opponent – Wolves. Man City don’t have a great record against Wolves and is certainly one of the harder games City could get first up. Same applies to Raheen Sterling.

Anthony Martial is second on the list, and he and all Man Utd players have benefited from our game difficulty rating playing Crystal Palace. Palace’s performance last weekend may just make a mockery of our rating. Martial was arguably in the top five in-form players post restart.

Aubameyang also has an easy game on paper, and Arsenal did look particularly good last weekend against a similar strength opposition that they will face this weekend. Based on last weekend’s work.

Son rounds out the top five selections, but who could take Spurs players after last week, and Spurs recent record at Southampton isn’t great.

Where’s GW1 hero Mo Salah? Well despite his bag O goals last weekend, this week it is Chelsea away, so slightly less likely to score than usual.

Our Tip: Aubameyang – looked good last weekend, and taking on West Ham at home who looked woeful

2020-21 FPL GW2 PREVIEW – FIXTURE DIFFICULTY

2020-21 FPL GW1 – BEST OF STATS

Fantasy Premier League GW1 is all done and dusted, but there’s always stats that can be of interest going forward.

So below is a quick summary of the best of the stats from GW1. A few key points in general, then into some player/team visuals.

  • Leeds United wowed everyone last weekend with their 4-3 loss to Liverpool, but their xG was just 0.27. Only Fulham’s was worse at just 0.13.
  • Leeds’ xA (xG against) was worst at 3.15.
  • Chelsea’s win v Brighton went against xG. Chelsea’s xG was 1.27 and Brighton’s 1.44. The only winners from week 1 with a deficit.
  • Liverpool teams were first and second for chances created – Liverpool 14 – Everton 13.
  • West Ham was third for Key Passes last weekend, despite being woeful at home to Newcastle. Newcastle had the second worst Shots on Target % despite winning.
  • Spurs had the third most touches inside the final third v Everton who had the third worst.

2020-21 FPL GW2 PREVIEW – OWNERSHIP CHANGES

After one gameweek there shouldn’t be too much change should there?

Well the below visuals show the change in ownership this week compared to last week.

Movement to the left or right of the middle means negative and positive movement. The size of the bubble is the % of ownership. Y Axis follows the current cost.

Callum Wilson at Newcastle is a big mover as one could imagine at his price. Jamie Vardy has won more friends too, although we’ll wait to see if there are more goals away from the spot. Mtirovic the big negative moved, probably because of his surprising bench stats last GW. Fulham won’t want to do that too much, they looked significantly better with him on the field.

No surprise that Mo Salah is winning more FPL friends this week, although we can presume that 100% of the FPL players bringing in Salah are doing so with a large slice of regret. Aubameyang too is battling Salah for popularity. James Rodriguez is the biggest premium midfielder mover, but it will be wait and see for us as more physical teams have a go at Everton.

No surprise that Hendrick for Newcastle tops the big mover for the budget midfielders, and why not after last weekend’s debut in the north east. Doucoure is a player we like a lot, and other agree given his movement this week. He is tremendous value given what he was able to do at Watford, and now Everton look like a step up.

Pope from Burnley is the big negative mover for Goalkeepers, which seems a little unfair considering he hasn’t played yet. Southampton’s McCarthy is the biggest mover which is a decent effort considering they lost 1-0. But he looks a keeper. Both position on the field and within people’s FPL sides.

Leeds players are popular this week, and why wouldn’t they be after last week. At home to Fulham this weekend on paper means goals and win.

We will launch similar visuals in the coming weeks monitoring form and FPL points.
