As the longest Premier League season in history comes to a close, we thought there has never been a better time for some extra tidbits of football information with our Premier League Week 38 Stats Extra Edition.
We have already offered up our Week 38 Premier League Predictions and Preview and the Alternative Premier League Predictions featuring Last Day Form.
But who doesn’t love more football based stats than you’ll ever need?
And we could do this to wrap up the season, but no one will really care after the season is over, so why not show some of the highlights before this season comes to a close.
You we hope, so here is the Premier League Week 38 Stats Extra Edition.
Premier League Week 38 Stats – LAST DAY FORM
We’ve already touched on the last day form, but here is the table for each team’s results on the last day of the season for the last ten seasons.
Some points of interest…
- Arsenal top a table. And are top scorers and meanest defence. Happy days for them, they take on Watford this weekend with the second worst points total and have conceded the most goals on the last day of the season.
- Manchester and Leicester face off this weekend, and have the same amount of points on the last day, and both have great records.
- One of Bournemouth’s last day fixtures was in the fourth division.
- Aston Villa’s record on the last day may not help them.
Premier League Week 38 Stats – xG – Totals and Difference
xG is a great measure for the expected performance of each team throughout the season, but heading into the final game of the season, it is mildly interesting that Spurs are the team that are that are out-performing their xG figure the most. It does help to have a Harry Kane in your side.
Amazing that Man City have an xG figure of nearly 100, and they are underperforming by a few goals.
Chelsea are the biggest team underperforming to their xG. Their quieter games at home probably don’t help.
Premier League Week 38 Stats – Games vs Opposition Table Position
Ever think your team had a worse run others?
Well now we provide the story of the season so far with a table on the average position of their opponent. This is the opposition position heading into the match, not based on ladder position now.
Chelsea have had the easiest run, almost three places on average higher than last placed Aston Villa..
Premier League Week 38 Stats – Games vs Top Six sides
Following on from the above, Aston Villa are shown here to play top six sides more than any other team this season. Top six being the position of the opponent heading into the game.
None of Aston Villa’s 15 games against the top six ended in a win.
Man City have the most points, but played plenty more games.
Premier League Week 38 Stats – Teams record v London clubs
With so many teams, and big teams in London, sometimes your season can be defined by your performance against them. You could say the same for the North West as well, but London has a more diverse range of teams in terms of ladder position, transfer budget, and colour of shirt. More on colours soon.
Premier League Week 38 Stats – The London Cup
Same as above except limited to London teams only.
There’s still one game to go for four teams to change the London Cup. Well not the winner though.
Premier League Week 38 Stats – Each Team’s record against colour of kits.
For something completely different, we have each team’s % of points won against whichever colour.
Note: we are only using the home kits for opposition for this measure, as it is too hard to keep up with the changes of away strips.
Premier League Week 38 Stats – xG, xA, XPts since the restart
Here are some stats of Expected Goals since the restart for both playes and teams.
For added interest we threw in the Expected Assists for players and Expected Points performance for each team.
XG SINCE RESTART WITH RELATIVE PERFORMANCE
EXPECTED ASSIST BY PLAYER SINCE RESTART WITH RELATIVE PERFORMANCE
TEAM EXPECTED POINTS SINCE RESTART WITH RELATIVE PERFORMANCE
TEAM EXPECTED GOALS SINCE RESTART WITH RELATIVE PERFORMANCE
