Why Chelsea can win

Chelsea have won half of the 20 league games played between these sides at Chelsea.

Norwich are relegated and were blown away by West Ham last weekend at home. Away to Chelsea can’t be much easier.

Chelsea have conceded just one goal to a side in the bottom six at the time they were playing them this season.

No team has conceded more goals to a London side than Norwich – 26 in 11 games. No team has conceded as many goals against West Ham’s Antonio this season either.

Norwich have scored one point against a top six side away this season. It is still better than three other sides, ironically one of them is Leicester, who is the side that Norwich got that point from.

Why Norwich can win.

Norwich have won the only midweek league fixture between these sides at Chelsea – in the old first division in 1985. There have been more lunar eclipses than Norwich wins there since, as the Canaries haven’t won there since.

Norwich have taken 8 points against top six sides this year (top six at time of playing) – only seven clubs have been better…

Barely Interesting Stat:

Norwich last beat London based Chelsea in any competition in December, when London based band East 17 were top of the charts with Stay Another Day in December 1994.

Why Burnley can win

Burnley were good enough to ruin Liverpool’s winning streak at home.

Burnley have not lost any of their last six games at home.

Why Wolves can win.

Wolves have beaten Burnley almost twice as much in this fixture, but Burnley are ahead 25-23 at Turf Moor.

Wolves lead 3-1 on a Tuesday.

Going back to 1965, Burnley have won just two of the last 19 top flight matches.

Wolves have won three of the last four midweek games between these sides. Burnley scored in the only game they didn’t win (1-1).

Burnley have won 1/5 at home to top six sides.

Wolves have lost just one of seven games away to middle eight sides.

Only three teams have scored more points away this season than Wolves, and only one have conceded less.

Why Man City can win

Man City have never lost a league match v Bournemouth.

Man City have won all nine fixtures from the last ten seasons.

Bournemouth’s best result at home is one draw in eight matches.

Why Bournemouth can win.

They are as in form as they can get right now. Two good results against big sides in two gameweeks.

South Coast sides have a good record this season again the big six sides – Southampton (6th) Brighton (7th) and Bournemouth (10th) are in the top ten for points scored against the big clubs.

Man City are in the bottom half of the table for away points v bottom six sides.

Bournemouth have won one in a row at home to top six opposition.

Barely Interesting Stat:

Before Bournemouth’s big win v Leicester, Man City had scored exactly double the goals away from home as Bournemouth. had at home.

Crystal Palace last beat Man Utd at home before the Premier League had started – in 1991 in the old first division.

Man Utd have lost only once to Crystal Palace in midweek in 15 games – and never at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace have taken just one point at home to the big six teams so far. They have also scored the equal lowest total of goals against the top six sides.

Crystal Palace’s win earlier in the season was their first in 13 games v Man Utd.

Barely Interesting Stat:

Crystal Palace have taken the 40 points for safety seriously, they’ve lost all five games since.

Brighton have won only five of the 25 H2H matches at home.

Southampton are unbeaten in the last six games against Brighton. The Seagulls last win was in 2012 in the Championship.

Southampton are 4-1 for playing bottom six teams away this season.

Only one team below Brighton have scored less points at home to middle eight teams. Wolves were the worst until beating Everton.
