Alternative Week 27 EPL Predictions – Gurgler v Last Minute Goals

The 2019-20 Premier League is starting to get to the most interesting stage, except for the title race, and  our Alternative Week 27 EPL Predictions are based on a stat that may be crucial in the final months of the season – goals scored after the 90th minute.

Over the past few seasons, each week we used a different way of selection Premier League, some of them based on football stats, and some were just plain silly.

But as the weekly preview became the behemoth of stats, our alternative EPL tipping was put on hold, but it is back now, and almost as good as ever.

Alternative Week 27 EPL Predictions – Last Minute Goals

Winner Home 90+ Goals Away 90+ Goals
Tottenham Chelsea 1 Tottenham 2
Newcastle Crystal Palace 2 Newcastle 4
Bournemouth Burnley 1 Bournemouth 2
Brighton Sheffield Utd 0 Brighton 1
Aston Villa Southampton 0 Aston Villa 5
Leicester Leicester 3 Man City 1
Draw Man United 1 Watford 1
Wolves Wolves 3 Norwich 1
Draw Arsenal 2 Everton 2
Liverpool Liverpool 3 West Ham 1

Our theory is that late goals are good goals, turning draws into wins and losses into draws/wins, and those hard earned points will help reach Europe or survive.

So we say the team who does it best now is setting themselves up nicely for the weeks ahead, so whichever team has scored more 90th min + goals gets the tip

Best of Goals by Minute Stats

Here’s a few graphs and points to show the most interesting parts of the team’s scoring behaviour by minute group.

  • Sheffield Utd and Southampton are the only two sides not to score after the 90th minute.
  • Crystal Palace are the only side not to score before the 15th minute.
  • Everton are the kings of the 1st half injury time goal.
  • Wolves, Burnley and Crystal Palace are the second half scoring

Full Week 27 EPL Predictions and Preview

If you are after more than tips determined by 90th minute goals then please head to our stat packed full preview of Week 27 Premier League

From that preview, here are the best of the barely interesting stats from the full preview as a taster, and our proper selections.

  • Of the teams that Jose Mourinho has played five or more times, against three sides he averages less than a goal a game – two are former clubs Chelsea and Real Madrid. The other is Sampdoria.
  • Burnley and Bournemouth, who play each other have the worst and third worst total number of shots.
  • Sheffield Utd have an average points per game of 2.5 v Bottom Six sides.
  • Southampton have a 100% record v promoted sides.
  • At Leicester, the home side has avoided defeat just once in the past matches with Man City. On Saturdays at home v Man City – Leicester have won just once in eight games.
  • Watford last avoided defeat at Old Trafford in 1986 with a 1-1 win, and their last win there was in the 1979 League Cup.
  • For games on Sundays between these sides, all but one of the 17 matches have ended in either a home win to either side  or an Arsenal away win. The one being a draw. So Arsenal can’t lose.
  • Going back to 1981, West Ham have scored just two goals in midweek games at Liverpool in 11 attempts. Their record is nine losses and two draws.
