Fantasy Premier League FPL Week 25 Preview – Captain Choices

Below we have some relevant FPL data points like scoring records against this week’s opponent, FPL points per minute form and more, and for each category a score is given based on the % of the best result for that stat.

Add the % scores together and you get our Captain rating. And for our thoughts below.

This week, the choices are harder than last week’s double Liverpool game week, so please accept some more stats on the best of our Captain selections.

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold tops the list, but can you be brave enough to captain a defender?

WE SAY YES

They may be playing a big six sides, but Man City’s Aguero and De Bruyne seem to have no problem getting among the FPL points, Aguero in particular has looked sharp of late.

Salah is also an easy options, especially with five goals and an assist in five games v Southampton.

Even those lucky enough to have Aubameyang could have a decent captain option with his huge return against Burnley.

WE SAY NO

Jamie Vardy, Raheem Sterling, James Maddison.

Fantasy Premier League FPL Week 25 Preview – Wildcard Options

Below we have split the major FPL players into categories, and have some data to help make an informed choice about multiple changes.

The comparison we have used the current FPL stats and points total, and taken them away from the same data fields from just before Christmas and the fixtures started stock piling.

For the FPL points per minute, a positive result is to have more from the last few game weeks. For Minutes per data field, a negative denotes improvement in the post Christmas performance.

We have a load of players across each graph to track their relative form to each other. They may not have the definitive answer yet, but should provide a little food for thought if you are wanting to make wholesale FPL changes.

VAR-DY OR NOT VAR-DY – THE FORWARD QUESTIONS

Many people are dumping Vardy for Jimenez or Aguero. But should the popular Leicester forward be dumped that easily.

The graphs below show that Vardy is indeed underperforming since Christmas compared to the season overall, and add the injury concern and Vardy is the number one FPL exit this week. But after he played in the League Cup midweek, it seems like the injury wasn’t as bad as first thought, which means it is down to pure performance now.

Given Vardy’s price in between the top end and the value options, there are two routes – trade up to Aguero or Aubameyang or cash in with a Jimenez or cheaper.

For the Aguero-Auba trade up route there are two positives. First is that both Aguero and Aubameyang have great scoring records against their next three opponents. For Aguero his record against the next three opponents is 37 Games – 27 Goals – 9 Assists. Aubameyang’s record is even better – 10 Games – 10 Goals – 3 Assists.

Secondly, to accommodate the extra cost of Aguero or Auba, you may have to drop one premium midfielder. But looking at the Christmas comparison, all of those players are slightly underperfoming and there will no doubt be some rotation soon. Especially for Man City.

For the cheaper option, the obvious one is Jimenez, and his stats below and for the season shows why he is the number one choice. The Mexican is in scoring form, and he has a goal or assist

Troy Deeney looks good in below comparisons due to an injury plagued early season, and although he is currently in our side, the worry is when the relegation battle affects his ability to attack. Surely not. He doesn’t have a great record against Everton, but does have some decent returns against Brighton and Man Utd in the next three.

Tammy Abraham is always a good shout, but Chelsea face tough fixtures, and are actively looking for a striker in the transfer window, so who knows how that will affect Abraham. Then there’s his record against his next three opponents. Combined six matches for no goals/assists.

Danny Ings too is worth considering, if he isn’t already a part of your team. His reord against the next twoo teams isn’t great, but not far away is Aston Villa who he has four goals in four games against.

Or finally, you could keep Jamie Vardy. The Man City game may be a reason to sell, but he does have six goals and an assist in 10 games against them. His record against Wolves and Chelsea isn’t great, and one does wonder how the injury could affect game time and performance.

Verdict: Trade up for Aguero or Aubameyang, especially if you already have Jimenez.

MANE MAN OR A SIDE SALAH?

Which one should you have, both or none?

The FPL points per minute between overall and post Christmas only show that all the big names aren’t necessarily flying at the moment.

Further down in our GOALS AND SHOTS graph section Mo Salah leads Sadio Mane in a number of fields, but you get the feeling it is quantity over quality for Salah this season.

Sadio Mane looks like the quality option of the two, but Salah seems to be knicking the points at the moment. Mane leaving the field last match certainly put a dent in the FPL dreams of those who spent their triple captain.

In the end it really comes down to your preference of who you like more in our opinion. But we think you only need one.

Onto Manchester City, and there’s no doubting the quality of Kevin De Bruyne, the concern is his boss Pep. Despite KDB shining in the middle, he is consistently moved around, and who knows if he starts every game as Pep turns his attention to the Champions League.

For Mahrez and Sterling, their is rotation to be considered too, more so for Mahrez. Sterling seems to have gone off his best for a little while now.

So is included for price, and has the capability for scoring a lot of FPL points, but who can trust Jose Mourinho.

Verdict – Pick one of Mane and Salah, and keep KDB. Avoid Son.

VALUE MIDFIELDERS

So many options this year, James Maddison is the main sticking point, so does his stats back him up.

We say that given his drop off in form, and some tough fixtures, and being pushed over in the League Cup semi final against Aston Villa wouldn’t help, that he may be worth the risk of trading out.

The number one replacement should be the New Beast Adama Traore. But perhaps one should consider Maddison’s team mate Harvey Barnes, whose previous game in the league shows he is a capable of points when given the game time. Perez too has been good for Leicester recently.

Aaron Mooy shows up in our recent form graphs below, but with Brighton right in the relegation mix, that may not suit too much FPL scoring. Relegation is also a concern for great potential Norwich assets Buendia and Cantwell.

Doucoure is already part of our team, so the recent stats vindicate our choice and should be considered as he has looked great in recent games.

Verdict: Drop Maddison for Traore, Doucoure or Harvey Barnes.
