CRYSTAL PALACE v SOUTHAMPTON

TUESDAY 7:30pm

H2H STATS – Last 10/20 Seasons

2019-20 FORM COMPARISON

THOUGHTS & STUFF

A decent midweek match awaits between two teams that appear safe now, but a run of losses could worry their fans still.

Why Crystal Palace Can Win….

Crystal Palace’s ten goals conceded at home in 11 games is bettered only by Liverpool. and shared with three other teams.

Palace are unbeaten in January games v Southampton in the last 20 seasons.

They also have just one loss in their last 10 league games.

Wilfried Zaha is always a factor if he’s not fouled too much, and stays on his feet.

Why Southampton Can Win….

Southampton have the best record for away points won as a % of all their points for the season. 17 of the Saints 28 points have come on the road, at a decent 60%.

Southampton (16) have scored goals away than Crystal Palace have at home (10). Palace’s ten goals is the lowest in the league for home games.

The Saints have a very good recent record v Crystal Palace – from 2011 they have five wins and two losses.

In form Danny Ings has gone one week without scoring, so surely he is due.

Barely Interesting Stat:

Crystal Palace have drawn six of their last eight games.

Final Say:

Crystal Palace 0 Southampton 1

ASTON VILLA v WATFORD

TUESDAY 7:30pm

H2H STATS – Last 10/20 Seasons

2019-20 FORM COMPARISON

THOUGHTS & STUFF

Watford continue to impress asthey hove in the op few teams for recent form. Aston Villa are desperate to get out of the bottom three. For all of their form, Watford are only a position and point above the drop, and can finish this round in the relegation zone.

Why Aston Villa Can Win….

Jack Grealish. One of the Premier League’s in form players.

Aston Villa have are undefeated the last three matches Home game v Watford on a midweek day

They also have a 100% record for games against Watford on Tuesday and in January.

Why Watford Can Win….

Watford are second in the last six form, third best form from when Nigel Pearson took over, and they have conceded just four goals since Pearson’s arrival – second best too. Even their goal difference is third best over the same time.

Watford have scored three goals in the last three matches against Aston Villa.

Aston Villa have a poor record against London clubs, including Watford.

Watford have a decent average points haul against Promoted sides this season – 2.0 per game. Unbeaten in four games.

Despite the 0-0 against Spurs, we think there is certainly more to come from Watford.

Final Say:

Aston Villa 1 Watford 1

BOURNEMOUTH v BRIGHTON

TUESDAY 7:30pm

H2H STATS – Last 10/20 Seasons

2019-20 FORM COMPARISON

THOUGHTS & STUFF

Starting to get a little ugly for Bournemouth who keep losing these crucial relegation six pointers. Brighton are barely better, but for some reason escape the doomsday relegation predictions for now. A loss to Bournemouth here puts them right into trouble, no matter how good the new manager is.

Just three wins in 24 matches for these two sides – Brighton have two wins in 12 matches, Bournemouth one less.

Why Bournemouth Can Win….

Bournemouth have won all night games v Brighton. And they are unbeaten at home in the past 10 seasons and in January.

Brighton have not won at Bournemouth in the league since 2007 when they both in the third tier.

Brighton have the third worst away record.

Why Brighton Can Win….

Brighton were really solid in their win over Bournemouth earlier in the season.

Brighton have at least won a game in the last four game weeks. Which was against Bournemouth.

Bournemouth have the season’s worst home record.

Why Neither Can Win….

Because neither team is going well enough to win.

Barely Interesting….

The last time Bournemouth beat Brighton in the league on a Tuesday to Thursday was 1966.

Final Say:

Bournemouth 0 Brighton 0

EVERTON v NEWCASTLE

TUESDAY 7:30pm

H2H STATS – Last 10/20 Seasons

2019-20 FORM COMPARISON

THOUGHTS & STUFF

Newcastle just keep on getting that important random win this season despite their injury list, and whilst not safe from the drop yet they are at least showing plenty of fight. Everton’s post Silva improvement continues and a slightly underwhelming midfield finish awaits.

Why Everton Can Win….

Because looking at the head to head stats, Everton are undefeated in January, at night, and midweek against Newcastle. Quite the Royal Sampler.

Everton have the fourth best home records since Marco Silva moved on, conceding just one goal in four home games. For three wins and a draw.

Newcastle have won only one of their past five away games, and win very few games at Goodison.

Everton have a much better record against striped kits than Newcastle do against Blue.

Newcastle’s injury toll will hurt them with these quick turnarounds.

Why Newcastle Can Win….

Because no one expects them to win.

Everton do have the second worst xG conversion rates in the Premier League.

Barely Interesting….

Newcastle’s last win at Everton was in 2011, and they last beat Everton on a Tuesday or Wednesday anywhere in 1997.

Final Say:

Everton 2 Newcastle 0

SHEFFIELD UTD v MANCHESTER CITY

TUESDAY 7:30pm

H2H STATS – Last 10/20 Seasons

2019-20 FORM COMPARISON

THOUGHTS & STUFF

Here are two sides that have arguably overachieved and underwhelmed the most this season. Few could argue about Sheffield Utd being the surprise of the season, a few more could argue against the Man City disappointment as a season low, but in relative terms they have only shown brief glimpses of their good this season.

Why Sheffield Utd Can Win….

Because they continue to surprise, and they were super competitive at home to Liverpool earlier in the season, losing just 1-0.

Man City don’t have a 100% record against promoted sides this season – they lost at Norwich earlier in the season.

Sheffield Utd concede less than a goal per game at home.

Why Man City Can Win….

They did win 6-1 n their last trip to a promoted side.

Man City haven’t lost to the Blades in the last 20 seasons in the league.

Man City have six wins and a draw from seven games on a Tuesday in all competitions this season. Their last Tuesday game in the league saw them dismantle Burnley 4-1.

They also  score on average three goals per game away from home, and have five more goals away than the next best.

Barely Interesting….

Sheffield Utd have won the last match at Brammall Lane between these sides – in the 2008 FA Cup.

Final Say:

Sheffield Utd 1 Man City 2

CHELSEA v ARSENAL

TUESDAY 8:15pm

H2H STATS – Last 10/20 Seasons

2019-20 FORM COMPARISON

THOUGHTS & STUFF

The premium clash for the Tuesday night gets the premium time slot. For some. Some will remember this fixture for Mourinho and Wenger loathing each other, sadly the two managers are new and don’t seem to hate each other, yet. Arsenal are closer to relegation than Chelsea, but they shouldn’t get sucked into a relegation scrap even if they lose to Chelsea. Arsenal have a sweet run of fixtures after this. It’s hard to argue that Chelsea don’t deserve the top four spot, but a loss here could allow Man Utd within a win.

Why Chelsea Can Win….

Chelsea are playing better, and have Tammy Abraham. Arsenal’s main scoring hope Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is serving a suspension.

Chelsea have the worst home goals scored to overall scored % of all the Premier League sides. Pity for Arsenal that Chelsea’s 1.5 average goals per game at home is better than Arsenal’s 1.1 average goals per game away.

Arsenal have won just three competitive games away this season.

Why Arsenal Can Win….

Arsenal are unbeaten away to London sides. A win at West Ham and draws to Watford and Crystal Palace.

Chelsea have been not as good at home to weaker sides, and occasionally from London. West Ham have won there this season.

Barely Interesting….

The last win for an away side in this fixture on a Tuesday night was 1987.

Final Say:

Chelsea 2 Arsenal 1

SPURS v NORWICH

WEDNESDAY 7:30pm

H2H STATS – Last 10/20 Seasons

2019-20 FORM COMPARISON

THOUGHTS & STUFF

Mourinho isn’t really working his magic at Spurs, well not the positive magic that is. No goals scored in three games in a row, and yes they were 1cm off scoring against Watford on Saturday, Son was also about 20 metres from scoring on a few occasions. In saying that, he will probably come out and scored a treble this weekend. Talking of scoring, our favourite Finnish footballer of all time, and party ambassador Teemu Pukki scored, and we hope it is the start of a revival for him and Norwich.

Why Spurs Can Win….

Norwich have a poor record away – scoring just five goals and averaging 0.5 points per game away from home.

Norwich have a poor record against London clubs. An even lower average than their away record.

Spurs have won their last three games at home to bottom six sides.

Spurs are unbeaten in their last four games against Norwich on a Tuesday/Wednesday night.

Why Norwich Can Win….

Spurs aren’t scoring many goals. In fact, only Cambridge (4th Div) and Bristol Rovers (3rd Div) have scored a triple zero in the last three matches.

Teemu Pukki is back.

Norwich have won a game recently.

Barely Interesting….

Spurs are 7th on the form table since Jose’s arrival at Spurs. From Christmas and Spurs drop to 14th best.

Final Say:

Spurs 1 Norwich 2

LEICESTER V WEST HAM

WEDNESDAY 7:30pm

H2H STATS – Last 10/20 Seasons

2019-20 FORM COMPARISON

THOUGHTS & STUFF

There is a real worry that Leicester are falling off a cliff form-wise. A real shame for a very likable side. They get to test how far they have fallen this weekend when West Ham arrive. Leicester have been pretty ordinary since Norwich roughed them and stole a point, with only battering Newcastle 3-0 a performance to match pre Norwich. It was always going to happen, they were outperforming their Expected Goals for so long. As it is, they are still outperforming it by plenty.

Why Leicester Can Win….

Leicester have been defensively sound at home this season on the whole.

The Foxes have won every League game on a Wednesday over the past 20 seasons, although West Ham have a 100% record in January.

Jamie Vardy will hopefully make up for his penalty miss.

Why West Ham Can Win….

Leicester’s home form has really dropped off, just 6 points and 15th in last six form. A shame that West Ham’s last six form has yielded the same points and sees them just one place better in last six away form.

Talking of Leicester’s home form as a reason west Ham can win, Leicester’s last five games has seen just one win (v Wigan in the FA Cup). They have struggled against lower opposition too, with draws v Aston Villa and Norwich and a loss to Southampton.

Only Bournemouth have lost more games than Leicester in the last six.

OK, now a West Ham reason they can win….West am’s away sequence goes like this with the most recent game listed first – LWLWLWL. This means a win is surely due. And just to drive it on home, two of those three wins were against Blue kits. Boom.

Also, this is a double game week for West Ham, and with the catch up game being against Liverpool, and therefore reasonably unwinnable, West Ham might put all their focus into this game.

Barely Interesting….

The home side have not won the last six games in this fixture.

Final Say:

Leicester 1 West Ham 1

MANCHESTER UTD v BURNLEY

TUESDAY 8:15pm

H2H STATS – Last 10/20 Seasons

2019-20 FORM COMPARISON

THOUGHTS & STUFF

Man Utd will surely bounce back against Burnley at home, although the loss of their main scorer Rashford will be interesting to watch. Burnley come into the game after a surprise, and much need win over Leicester.

Why Man Utd Can Win….

Burnley are yet to take a point against any of the big six teams. (Big six being the natural big six pre season).

Man Utd have only lost once at home this season. That was against Crystal Palace who seem to enjoy annoy teams from Manchester.

Their record in the last six home games is second best. Only to Liverpool, which will hurt, but at least second is something this season.

They can close the gap to fourth placed Chelsea with a win and if Chelsea lose to Arsenal.

Burnley have scored just one goal in the last four away games.

Why Burnley Can Win….

Man Utd aren’t quite as good against the lower teams. Although not quite so much at home.

Burnley have a few potential goal scorers in Wood and Barnes, and to a lesser degree Jay Rodriguez. Man Utd have just lost their main man.

Barely Interesting….

The last three games at Old Trafford have ended in a draw – the last two were 2-2.

Final Say:

Manchester Utd 3 Burnley 0

WOLVES v LIVERPOOL

WEDNESDAY 8:15pm

H2H STATS – Last 10/20 Seasons

2019-20 FORM COMPARISON

premier league week 24 liverpool v wolves1920

THOUGHTS & STUFF

This will probably be a tight contest with Wolves on a high after ruining Southampton’s day last weekend.  Liverpool looked even happier with their win over Man Utd, and so they should be. One does wonder if the Man Utd win is a watershed moment and now the handbrake comes off. A scary thought if true.

Why Wolves Can Win….

Wolves beat Man City at home recently so why not Liverpool.

Traore is a beast.

Liverpool are actually playing a side with a fit, in form striker in Jimenez.

Why Liverpool Can Win….

Refer 19/20 season.

Even their goalkeeper gets assists.

Mo Salah hates shirts.

Liverpool are unbeaten against sides with Dog nicknames that have gambling sponsors on their kit, and come from the midlands.

Barely Interesting….

Wolves have scored and conceded as many goals at home as they have away at this point of the season. Talk about a barely interesting fact to bring the home preview home.

You’re welcome.

Final Say:

Wolves 0 Liverpool 1
