Fantasy Premier League FPL Week 23 Preview – Captain Choices
Below we have three lots of data – Player history v Team, FPL Points from this season per minute, current FPL Form, and more.
Add the scores together and you get our Final Score. And for our thoughts below.
It’s not a bad guide for the top players, not exclusive to picking a captain.
Liverpool have just Trent Alexander-Arnold in top five captain picks this weekend. But taking a defender is always a risk as captain. But a Man Utd side without Rashford looks pretty light on goals.
Kevin De Bruyne is the star of this week. A brilliant record v Crystal Palace help, but he is in top form anyway.
A question about taking Ings or Jimenez looks a bit tricky after our table below. And they play each other this weekend. The next few are filled up Liverpool and Man City players.
WE SAY YES
Kevin De Bruyne.
WE SAY NO
Liverpool v Man Utd is pretty tough going, with Liverpool’s big stars converting very few chances in games against United.
Fantasy Premier League FPL Week 23 Preview – Our FPL Suggestions
BUZZING HORNETS
Watford are currently one of the form teams, and they are offering up quite a few decent selections.
Gerard Deulofeu is leading the Watford FPL points scoring, and we must admist to a tinge of envy having taken Deulofeu earlier in the season only for him to disappoint. And that disappointment provides the biggest doubt for FPL purposes – his inconsistency. Rarely will he put two decent games back to ack, although he looks more lively since Nigel Pearson arrived. He does show up nicely in reent stats below, but he has shown up in stats all season without scoring mega FPL points.
Troy Deeney is a beast. His absence for most of the season so far may explain Watford’s underwhelming first half to the season. The fact that he is eight on total FPL points scored says something considering how much football he has missed.
Four goals in his last five starts ticks a lot of boxes, but there is more to him than that. His presence on the field creates chances for the team. And he looks hungry for more, and Watford have a decent run coming up.
We’ve already drafted him in.
Abdoulaye Doucouré – 29 points in the last three weeks underlines Doucoure’s return to FPL gold. At a cost of $5.6M and owned by just 1.5%, he is surely worth a risk more than a tumbling Zaha or dare we say a Traore or Fleck. Doucoure is a proven FPL with 124/136 points in the last two seasons. His 70 so far this season looks a little light, but the curve is upwards.
Ismaïla Sarr – a big 13 point haul against Man Utd not long has brought more attention on Sarr, other than the dreadful air swing he had against Liverpool. Sarr is another great midfield option from Watford, and he is only owned by 1.3% of FPL players, but up against Doucoure who is cheaper, scored more FPL points, and has more FPL history we say go for the former.
FIRMINO TIME
Liverpool players look a must as they charge towards a title, but with most heading towards either double defence or double Mane/Salah, perhaps the third prong of that superstar trio could be worth a shout.
Firmino is currently showing up favourably in our data, particularly some of the recent data we captured from Week 19. And if games tend to be tight, it is the Brazilian who sneaks in with the crucial goal more often than not.
Firmino is currently only owned by 10% – as opposed to the 25% of Salah and 40% of Mane, and costs a full $3M less than those two. And he isn’t that far behind point wise either.
We are going to bring him in ahead of their double gameweek as a cut price alternative to Mane-Salah double.
Fantasy Premier League FPL Week 23 Preview – Recent Stats
We provide a lot of stats below, but a real point of interest is the stats from the recent busy Christmas New Year period. So we have taken the points from Gameweek 19 and taken them from the total so see who is hot and who is not.
Some of the stats point out the obvious, like Ings is in great form, and so is Alexander-Arnold.
As above, some of the Watford players are showing up nicely.
Of course it doesn’t quite help some players who were injured or rested during the period.
