Here’s our match by match review and our own Premier League Predictions Week 22. With loads of stats as below. But keep in mind the following…

All stats are based on the last 20 years of League fixtures,except where stated. Last 6 matches are League fixtures only.

The barely interesting fact is just that, barely interesting. But takes in all competitions and cups.

WATFORD v SPURS

Who’d think not long ago that heading into this game that Watford would be the form team as Spurs slip further down the ladder. Granted last time these teams played Watford had no further room to slide. But Watford are in the top three for form since Nigel Pearson arrived, just one point from Man City’s last seven game haul.

Seems most weeks Spurs have the early kick off, which is great viewing if only to see Jose Mourinho get more frustrated. There could be another does of frustration this Saturday.

Why Watford Can Win….

Watford have the form – three wins from their last three  home games – scoring seven and conceding just one to Wolves in the process. Spurs’s last three away record is 1-1-1. 

The Hornets have increasingly in form forwards like Troy Deeney and Gerard Deulofeu. Harry Kane is out for months.

Momentum. Watford are steaming out of the bottom three, Spurs are seeing the top four slowly slipping away.

Defence – Watford have conceded four goals in seven games since Pearson took charge. Spurs have conceded eight.

Why Spurs Can Win….

Jose Mourinho’s record v Watford. 8 Matches for 7 wins

Last January Spurs won four from four without Harry Kane.

Son Heung-min is still arguably the best player on the ground.

Barely Interesting….

Both sides have beaten Wolves 2-1 within their last three home/away games.

Spurs haven’t beaten Watford away on a Saturday since 1984.

WEST HAM v EVERTON

A game that no doubt will be called by some as the David Moyes derby or something similar. It is a game featuring two teams who have probably underachieved the most this season so far, based on money available and squad strength.

Despite lying 11th, Everton could get within sniffing distance of the top six, and West Ham could go into the bottom three with a loss and unfavourable results.

Why West Ham Can Win….

West Ham’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth in their last home game is an impressive result to follow, although Bournemouth’s recent loss to Watford at home means beating Bournemouth isn’t unique this season. It also hides that the previous four home games were losses.

Why Everton Can Win….

Everton are in decent form since Marco Silva left – equal third in the form table, with only one loss in those seven games. Along with Watford and Crystal Palace.

David Moyes’ record against Everton is five losses and one win.

Everton’s record at West Ham is great – losing just 18% of their games there in the past 20 seasons. The losing % reduced when factoring in Saturdays and 3pm kick offs.

West Ham have lost 60% of their home games this season – a season high/low.

MANCHESTER CITY v CRYSTAL PALACE

Man City look like they are about to unleash their full potential with a fit and scoring Aguero, KDB masterclasses and so much attacking talent. Crystal Palace have been drawing a lot of games, which is hardly form that will scare Man City.

Why Man City Can Win….

Man City have only lost twice to Crystal Palace in the league in the past 20 seasons.

Although Crystal Palace did beat Man City last season at home, before that the scores at home were 5-0, 5-0, 4-0, 5-1, 3-0 to Man City.

Not only are Man City the kings of scoring this season, only three teams have scored fewer away goals than Palace this season.

Man City have scored 42 more goals than Crystal Palace this season. And their record against striped kits (2.7 average points per game) is better than overall.

Aguero is coming into this game off a record breaking hat trick.

Why Crystal Palace Can Win….

Crystal Palace did win at Man City last season 3-2, when they were very good on the road.

Barely Interesting….

No team has scored more goals per game than Man City across the major European leagues.

NORWICH v BOURNEMOUTH

Quality bottom of the table clash, and one both teams desperately need to win. A win won’t save them yet, but it may trigger a burst of form to take them out of the bottom three. The last clash was a reasonably meh 0-0.

Why Norwich Can Win….

Norwich are unbeaten at home to Bournemouth this century.

The Canaries have the best home goals scored to overall goals scored in the league this season at 77%.

Bournemouth have a woeful record against teams with a bird nickname – an average of just 0.2 points per meeting. Or one draw from five matches. Although that point came against Norwich.

Why Bournemouth Can Win….

Bournemouth have at least won two games since Week 10 comapred to Norwich’s one.

Bournemouth have kept four clean sheets this season, twice as many as Norwich, and the previous fixture earlier in the season was 0-0.

Callum Wilson is due to get back among the goals, just in time to be included in the transfer gossip pages.

SOUTHAMPTON  v WOLVES

Hard to believe after the starts these two teams made to the season that they would be meeting as 12th v 7th, and they are just three points apart now. Southampton gaining revenge on Leicester for the 9-0 loss at home last weekend.

Why Southampton Can Win….

Danny Ings – scoring machine. 14 goals this season and has scored in 9 of his last 11 games.

Southampton’s record against Midlands team is quite encouraging. Average of 2 points per game.

Southampton are 4th in the form table since the start pf December, and have conceded the 4th fewest amount of goals

Wolves have lost their last tow on the road. 

Wolves had to play an FA Cup game midweek.

Why Wolves Can Win….

Traore – aka the New Beast. Just when Adebayo Akinfenwa is getting to the end of his career, a new version is starting to really impress in the Premier League.

Southampton still have the 4th worst home record this season.

Barely Interesting….

Going back 40 seasons, Wolves have won just two games v Southampton.

Final Say:

ARSENAL v SHEFFIELD UTD

Sheffield United continue to surprise and amaze with their sixth place finish. Whether they can hold on is debatable, but beating Arsenal this weekend will surely prove they are up for it. 

Why Arsenal Can Win….

They are steadily improving under new manager Mikel Arteta every week.

Sheffield Utd have a terrible record away to Arsenal. See below.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored three goals in three games v promoted sides this season.

Why Sheffield Utd Can Win….

They have already beaten Arsenal this season.

Sheffield United are one of the better performing sides away, and have conceded the third lowest total of goals away.

The Blades have not lost to a London club this season.

Sheffield Utd also have three clean sheets away from home this season.

Barely Interesting….

Sheffield United’s last win at Arsenal was in August 1971, where the number one song was How Can You Mend A Broken Heart by the Bee Gees.

BRIGHTON v ASTON VILLA

It is a game Brighton won’t want to lose to stay away from a team like Aston Villa in the relegation zone. A loss for Brighton is not enough to see them leapfrogged by Aston Villa. Only on goal difference.

Why Can Brighton  Win….

Aston Villa have conceded the most amount of goals away this season. And were flogged 6-1 by Man City last start.

Brighton managed a draw with Chelsea last start at home.

Why Aston Villa Can Win….

Jack Grealish. He got a goal and assist in the previous leg against Brighton this season, and has a decent record of scoring away to lower ranked sides.

Brighton’s record against promoted teams this season isn’t great. Including a defeat to Aston Villa earlier in the season.

Barely Interesting….

Brighton last beat Aston Villa in 1980.

NEWCASTLE v CHELSEA

Why Newcastle Can Win….

Newcastle have a decent record at home to Chelsea. Some of that because of Jose Mourinho’s efforts in the north east for Chelsea.

One of our favourites Almiron is among the scoring in the Premier League finally.

Why Chelsea Can Win….

Tammy Abraham loves to score against the lower ranked teams.

Because Chelsea don’t have a crippling injury list like Newcastle and they didn’t have to play midweek in an FA Cup replay.

Barely Interesting….

Chelsea have won just two of the eight games in Newcastle from 2010 to 2019. Other stats were four draws and two losses.

BURNLEY v LEICESTER

Is Leicester’s loss to Southampton the beginning of a little slump? They certainly haven’t had an easy run of fixtures, nor have they been as impressive lately.

Leicester are stumbling a little, so can Burnley take advantage.

They have a 100% record against teams who wear Claret Shirts.

Burnley were terrible last time at home.

Burnley also have a bad record against midlands teams.

Why Man Utd Can Win….

Because they are the only team to take any points from Liverpool so far this season.

Man Utd have won 4/6 matches on a Sunday.

Man Utd have a great record against the top sides this season.

Six of the last eight matches have ended as draws.
