Fantasy Premier League FPL GW 22 Preview – Captain Choices
Below we have three lots of data – Player history v Team, FPL Points from this season per minute, current FPL Form, and more.
Add the scores together and you get our Final Score. And for our thoughts below.
It’s not a bad guide for the top players, not exclusive to picking a captain.
Liverpool’s deadly duo end up on top this weekend, with good form and a currently struggling Spurs to play. KDB is also in our top five as ever. Danny Ings makes his first appearance in the top five captain choices for something different for the brave.
WE SAY YES
Hard to go past the Liverpool duo of Mane and Salah, but which one if you’re lucky enough to have two. Flip a coin we say.
Manchester City’s duo of Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling are good choices too, given the goals Aston Villa allow.
A left field choice could be star Wolves man Jimenez. They are playing Newcastle who are decimated by injury. The Mexican is little down our list due to no experience against Newcastle.
WE SAY NO
Not sure about Vardy given how much football he has missed.
Chelsea have been so poor at home that it is hard to take Abraham.
Fantasy Premier League FPL GW 22 Preview – In Depth
BOURNEMOUTH’S EASY RUN MAKES THEM AN INTERESTING PROPOSITION FOR THE NEXT THREE WEEKS
Bournemouth have been terrible on and off recently, and their current bottom three position is a just reward for such mediocrity. But the Cherries do tend to do their form in big blocks, so a poor run is usually followed by a good runs of wins. They have the perfect next three games to do so.
As part of our weekly EPL Fixture Difficulty Ratings, we gave Bournemouth a season low for any side rating of 2/10. They play Watford at home, followed by Norwich and Brighton. Although Watford are turning their form around, it is a great time to rediscover the midfield for Bournemouth.
Question is, is there any FPL gold in there?
They do have two good strikers, and both have some form against upcoming opponents. Although Callum Wilson has been one of the big FPL disappointments this season. Here is the goals and assists record for a few select players.
Callum Wilson
v Watford 8 Matches – 3 Goals – 2 Assists
v Norwich 4 M – 1 G – 0 A
v Brighton 5 M – 3 G – 3 A
Josh King
v Watford 11 Matches – 5 Goals – 0 Assists
v Norwich 1 M – 0 G – 0 A
v Brighton 5 M – 1 G – 1 A
Ryan Fraser
v Watford 8 Matches – 1 Goals – 3 Assists
v Norwich 1 M – 0 G – 0 A
v Brighton 2 M – 0 G – 0 A
Harry Wilson
The Liverpool loanee is king of the free kicks, and Norwich may well oblige with some opportunities. They are 5th in most fouls conceded. Brighton and surprisingly Watford are well down the list though.
Penalties
Bournemouth’s opponents have been quite generous this season with giving away penalties – 13 between them this season.
This week’s opponents Watford are 3rd worst with five penalties given away, and Norwich lead this stat with six. Brighton are down in 9th with two. Watford have allowed all five pens to score, Norwich only three for the record.
Clean Sheets
Bournemouth have only kept four clean sheets this season, but two of them have come in 0-0 draws with Watford and Norwich. Many people already have Rico and/or Ramsdale, so that could give some confidence in having a Bournemouth defensive asset and bringing them off the bench if they don’t usually play.
Our Suggestion
Perhaps it is time to give Callum Wilson one last try, and maybe throw in a cheap Bournemouth defender or play them off the bench for a change.
For the record, here is the next three game difficulty ratings for all teams.
Fantasy Premier League FPL GW 22 Preview – Quick Stats
Every year there will be Emperors of Disappointment and Kings of the Surprise and this season has proven no different.
A quick and nasty way of checking this our check of total points against cost.
Down the other end of the boat are the under achievers. To determine this we did the same math, but set a minimum of 20 FPL points scored.
Danny Ings’ exploits has seen him rocket into the top three over the Christmas break.
Goalkeepers as Sheffield Utd are top of the list for value. No surprise there. Trent Alexander-Arnold is the big name player in the top 20.
Not many surprises in the bottom 20, although some are unfairly called out thanks to the minimum 20 FPL points.
CHANGE IN FORM SINCE ROUND 18
A quick look at who has change in form stats from week 18, to see who has peaked over the new year period.
Only issue is that rested, injured or suspended players skews the bad result..
Fantasy Premier League FPL GW 22 – Comings and Goings
Want to know who is the most popular player overall? Or the highest pick per team? Or the most popular team? Or who changed ownership the most? And what about price changes?
We say it’s an FPL buffet, and help yourself. Data up to date as of Friday 12am AEST.
TOP 20 PLAYERS SELECTED
Kevin De Bruyne is number one FPL, but Liverpool’s TAA is the big flyer among the top 20 for movement since GW 18.
Mane continues to win the battle of the Liverpool dynamic duo for now.
People continue to dis-Mount, and Lundstram is finally on the way out. With a good run coming up for Sheffield Utd, that seems a little impatient and ungrateful.
THIS WEEK’S TOP INS AND OUTS
No surprise here as Son is dumped for his Red Card stint, and possibly his poor judgement earning that red slip.
The new beast Traore is popular, and so he should be. Martial is popular, but will surely disappoint before long, suckering all those FPL players who hang onto him after the Norwich game.
Spurs players are on the nose. Between Kane’s injury, Son’s suspension, and Jose looking to meltdown already, looks like the FPL golden days for Spurs are over.
FPL OWNERSHIP BY TEAM
Want to know which team supplies the most FPL players, the answer won’t surprise. Liverpool are on top as the most popular team.
Not long ago Man City took over from Liverpool as top dog, and now they have been passed by the Foxes who have almost overtaken Liverpool now. Wolves are now third most popular team.
Watford may be last in popularity, but they are playing well and there’s plenty of value and differentials.
Fantasy Premier League FPL GW 22 Preview – Stats & Stuff
Not enough stats for you? You greedy bugger. Well have some more anyway. Too many stats is never enough.
Here are some of our favourites from the Opta data and S & C Sports Analytics.
GOALS AND SHOTS
Some usual stats, but we have also introduced the measure of Shot on Target per minute. Jesus leads this stat, and it is one data field where Salah is well ahead of Mane.
CREATIVITY
First of all are some basic Key Passes and Big Chances Created graphs.
Then we start combining them to get the big picture.
Finally, we take the measures and divide that by the cost to look for some value.
