Premier League Week 8 Thoughts

LIVERPOOL’s TITLE TO LOSE

An eight point lead is plenty at this stage, especially when Man City are looking a bit shaky, and there rest of the Big Six all have their own problems.

As good as Liverpool are going, they aren’t really blowing teams away, and even Mo Salah doesn’t seem to be at the very height of the powers we have expected in recent seasons.

Could go either way if they finally fail to win a game – it could the result they needed to have or that any loss of momentum will seriously disrupt the mojo.

We say it is just a matter of time before Mo Salah has one of those big scoring days out, and steers Liverpool towards the long awaited title.

SPURS & MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE PLENTY AND NOTHING IN COMMON

Spurs and Manchester United were both terrible on the weekend, and both were punished by sides who are among the favourites for relegation

Brighton in particular were simply better than Spurs in every department and thoroughly deserve the big win. Newcastle also were worthy winners, but not as impressive as Brighton.

Both teams have managers that don’t look like they will be in charge into 2020.

The difference lies in assembling their respective squads. Spurs have spent bugger all in the past few seasons, where Man Utd have just fired money out of a cannon towards agents and clubs across Europe and the UK. Both policies look like they need to change.’

Maybe the answer is a new manager for both sides, and soon. Before Man Utd are in the bottom three, and Spurs fall to the lower half of the table.

HOPEFULLY NORWICH’S BIG LOSS DOESN’T SPOIL THE PARTY

We have really enjoyed Norwich this season so far, with Teemu Pukki being an instant favourite.

But following their 5-1 loss at home to fellow promotee Aston Villa they are now 19th and with the injuries piling up look busted arse.

Their games are super enjoyable, and full of goals, so we are hoping that they aren’t scared by the ladder position and start playing too defensively to survive.

That’s even as an Ipswich Town fan.

We hope they keep the faith, get some players back, and restart the party.

WHO WOULDN’T WANT TO BE A BURNLEY FAN INSTEAD OF AN EVERTON FAN –  For all of the exciting spending and players at Everton, it isn’t working as the Toffees sit 18th.

We are super disappointed that Juventus signee Moises Kean hasn’t quit worked yet. Among other things.

That may change any time, but you get the feeling that we all might have to wait until a new manager is appointed. Which may not be long.

Burnley certainly don’t have the exotic names of Richarlison, Sigurdsson or Digne, but they certainly give it everything, with some more older fashioned players and plays.

And that is being rewarded with wins right now. And we couldn’t be happier for them.

LEICESTER ARE GOOD ENOUGH FOR TOP FOUR – Leicester played quite good against Liverpool, but just not quite good enough to get the same draw result to match the 18-19 effort which ruined Liverpool’s  title tilt last season.

EURO TRAVELS – One side in the Man City v Wolves match could have used the excuse that they played in Europe a long way from home. Neither side moaned about the scheduling, but the fact that Wolves European game was a day later makes their 2-0 win over Man City even more impressive.
