Fantasy Premier League FPL Preview Gameweek 5 – Captain Choices

Two easy games on paper for Liverpool and MAnchester City make captain choices reasonably easy. But that hasn’t stopped us over complicating it.

Below we have three lots of data – Player history v Team, FPL Points from this season per minute, and a measure from our Fixture Difficulty Ratings published earlier this week.

Add the three scores together and you get our Final Score.

WE SAY YES

Aguero, Salah, KDB

WE SAY NO

Mane not a great record v Newcastle, and will Salah pass him the ball?

LEFT FIELD

Jamie Vardy

Fantasy Premier League FPL Preview – Difficulty Factor

We have previous released a new method of determining the difficulty of each team’s games. Based on last year’s form, table position, relative form to opposition, and head to head record, we have a score of 1 (Easy to 10 (Hard). Just a more customised score than the official FPL one.

Our measure below is for the next three games to give you a little more term thinking.

Fantasy Premier League FPL Preview Gameweek 5 – Quick Stats

Want to know who is the most popular player overall? Or the highest pick per team? Or the most popular team? Or who changed ownership the most? And what about price changes?

We say it’s an FPL buffet, and help yourself.

Mason Mount and Sadio Mane are the newcomers into the Top 20. Kelly and Button are still high up on the list as enablers.

Same players as above, but we have captured their change in ownership from GW4.

How about seeing which teams have the most players selected. No real surprises really.

Wildcards are being activated left, right and centre, so interesting to see who is moving in and out.

Young Chelsea players are big movers.

Changes are from the previous Gameweek.

Man Utd players are on the nose according to FPL players, claiming the bottom three spots. Laporte’s drop is obvious after his injury.

New Feature – FPL Points per Million (Cost)

For something new, we wanted to look at which players are outperforming their cost, so we simply took the total points scored thus far in 19/20 and divided by their cost.

This will give you a quick guide of who is overperforming. No surprise Pukki and Ashley Barnes are at the top. Followed by a range of promoted team players. Note that KDB is one premium players to make the list after his injury hit 18-19 season.

A quick look at costs, but this will become richer with more data. We’ll always take the results from Gameweek 3.

Fantasy Premier League FPL Preview Gameweek 5 – Quick Match by Match Thoughts

If the graphs weren’t enough, how about our FPL thoughts from our full Premier League Week 4 preview provided here.

LIVERPOOL v NEWCASTLE

For all the talk and FPL ownership of Mane v Salah, Roberto Firmino has quietly assumed second place in Liverpool’s FPL point scorers at decent return of 6.8 per game. He is a full 2.0 cheaper than Mane, so could be the better value Liverpool non Salah alternative. Although his record v Newcastle is grape, not great. Just one assist in four games.

MANCHESTER UTD v LEICESTER CITY

Jamie Vardy is worth a punt. Leicester may have some hard games coming up, but he actually averages a goal or an assist against each side in the upcoming three games. And he is scoring and assisting at a better strike rate under Brendan Rodgers than in under premiership winning coach Ranieri.

SPURS v CRYSTAL PALACE

Those FPL players with Harry Kane will probably rubbing their hands at the prospect of Kane v Crystal Palace after his International goal scoring in the break, but goals are a little more scarce against Palace and is record v the Eagles isn’t as good as team mate Eriksen’s.

Eriksen v Crystal Palace = 9 Games / 3 Goals – 4 Assists

Kane v Crystal Palace = 11 Games / 3 Goals – 2 Assists

WOLVES v CHELSEA

FPL players appear to be jumping on board with a couple of Chelsea youngsters with Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham the top two players for change in ownership from Week 4 to Week 5. Good value too, but can they break down the Wolves defense. Despite being 17th, Wolves have conceded just 5 goals, 4 less than Chelsea in 11th. Jiminez and Jota are in the top 20 most traded out, but will they troll their owners with a bonanza against Chelsea?

BRIGHTON v BURNLEY

Ownership of Ashley Barnes has gone up over the International Break (2.3%) and with good reason. He currently has the best points per Million ratio of any player this season with a score of 5.56. He has a modest record v Brighton (1 Goal + 1 Assist in 3 games) but is in form.

NORWICH CITY v MANCHESTER CITY

By now every FPL probably has at least one of KDB or Raheem Sterling, but those with Sergio Aguero may be rubbing their hands at the prospect of him facing Norwich. He has 6 goals and 4 assists in 6 games against the Canaries. And then there’s the forgotten man of the City midfield David Silva who is coming back into form, making decisions even harder.

BOURNEMOUTH v EVERTON

We’re holding onto Moises Kean for our Fantasy Team now, in the hope that he produced something close to what we saw with Kean in the previous season with Juventus. A must have is Lucas Digne who strengthened his position in the top 10 selected players for FPL, with a healthy 2% increase in ownership. Worth noting for Everton free kick takers, is that Everton have won the second most amount of fouls so far in 19-20 FY.

Fantasy Premier League FPL Preview Gameweek 5 – Our Team

Still here? How about looking at our side.It wouldn’t be fair on us to hand our advice without putting our proverbial FPL money where the mouth is, so to finish off our Fantasy Premier League FPL Preview Gameweek 5 is our FPL side for this weekend.

Wildcard activated for fun. The big risk is bringing in Jamie Vardy and not finding a way to bring in Sterling, but we do like to be different.
