The biggest rugby league game of the season is almost here, so what better time to unveil a bunch of barely interesting State of Origin Stats from the series so far.
Perhaps some of them foretell of a key stat that will lead either state to glory tomorrow night.
Or that they are just numbers used to fill the time in between.
Either way, our Barely Interesting State of Origin Stats…so far are here for your mild interest.
SERIES DECIDERS
Queensland have an excellent record in Series Deciders – it doesn’t help the statistic that NSW tend to win the first two games often when they win a series.
The overall record massively favours Queensland – Won 14 – Lost 4 – Drawn 1.
They also have a decent record away from Queensland with 4 wins – 2 losses and 1 draw.
Even more barely interesting, Queensland have won 8/10 series deciders when they have won the first game.
RUN METRES
Nothing really surprising here, given that the first game was pretty even, and NSW belted Queensland in the second.
We’ve added average metres per run, and average metres run per minute on the field for a quality over quantity measure.
Outside of the top ten Matt Gillett (0.6) has the worst Average Metres per minute on the field, followed by Ben Hunt (0.7) and Angus Crichton (1.1).
Halves make up the worst average metres per run, Jarrod Wallace is the worst of the forwards. He is also only in front of Cody Walker and Moses Mbye for total metres run.
POST CONTACT METRES – TACKLE BREAKS
Since Origin are the toughest games of all, how about a quick check on one of the toughest State of Origin stats of all.
Once again the Post Contact metres are dominated by blue, Tariq Sims way out in front for average post contact metres per run.
Daly Cherry-Evans is down the end with an average of just 10cm.
For tackle breaks, Queensland players are more competitive in the top ten, which probably says more about their wastefulness in Game One than anything.
KICKING
Ever wondered what the breakdown of kicking was in State of Origins this year?
Of course you did.
Sadly there will probably be no kicking duel.
BENCH
One bench has clearly been better than the other. Here’s a few fields to show how before we sign off.
