Almost halfway through the season and with State of Origin taking over, we’d better have a look at the last round before rugby league gets distracted with our NRL Round 11 Team of the Week is ready for discussion.
After sitting through all of the eight NRL Round 11 games, we may as well have something constructive to show for it.
Our NRL Round 11 Team of the Week list features the best players from the weekend, and where possible try to pick the 13 players in position, and then the next best four, where possible. But some positions don’t shine like others, so we have a flexible starting 13 from time to time.
Of course any Team of the Week is going to cause debate, so feel free to pick apart our NRL Round 11 Team of the Week.
NRL Round 11 Team of the Week
FULLBACK – JAMES TEDESCO (Roosters)
Kicking off the NRL Round 11 Team of the Week with a player from a losing side, and well beaten too. From a quality head to head with the rising superstar Kalyn Ponga. And we get a return bout for State of Origin.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
James Tedesco | 0 | 1 | 13 | 4 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 24 | 280 | 0 |
WINGER – JOSH ADDO-CARR (Storm)
Two tries and plenty of metres and speed against the Bulldogs, another waiting to cause nightmares for Queensland on Wednesday week.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Josh Addo-Carr | 0 | 2 | 8 | 8 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 13 | 207 | 3 |
CENTRE – BRONSON XERRI (Sharks)
Originally caught our eye as a rare player starting with the letter X, but he may end up being more than Anthony Xuereb. Has been some inclusion for the Sharks this season.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Bronson Xerri | 0 | 3 | 5 | 12 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 16 | 165 | 5 |
CENTRE – DANE GAGAI (Rabbitohs)
Not necessarily tearing up the competition for tries, and he’ll never be a straight replacement for Greg Inglis, but he is a super defensive centre, who gets another crack at Origin next Wednesday.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Dane Gagai | 0 | 0 | 6 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 14 | 130 | 16 |
WINGER – DALE COPLEY (Titans)
It wasn’t long ago when Dale Copley was the Broncos best centre, still shows his worth in the NRL with a hat trick of tries.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Dale Copley | 0 | 3 | 0 | 12 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 14 | 147 | 2 |
FIVE EIGHTH – TYRONE ROBERTS (Titans)
Led the one of the biggest upsets of the weekend with a big performance against Manly. Now the Titans just need him to stay fit more.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Tyrone Roberts | 2 | 2 | 2 | 8 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 9 | 112 | 16 |
HALFBACK – MITCHELL PEARCE (Knights)
A super performance against his old side, in the big surprise win over the Roosters. It wasn’t quite enough for the NSW Origin side. Sadly for him and Queensland.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Mitchell Pearce | 1 | 1 | 5 | 4 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 16 | 98 | 11 |
PROP – DAVID KLEMMER (Knights)
Has maintained his high standards at the Knights, and we could even say he is much better than his Bulldogs days. Still looks weird with hair.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
David Klemmer | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 19 | 193 | 34 |
HOOKER – DAMIAN COOK (Rabbitohs)
Just edged Cameron Smith for hooker of the week, and perhaps it is his electric style that makes him easier to choose in the Team of the Week.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Damien Cook | 2 | 1 | 1 | 4 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 15 | 86 | 48 |
PROP – PAYNE HAAS (Broncos)
A big year for Payne Haas, from missing the start of the season through disciplinary reasons to a Blues jersey by May. Worked hard in the arm wrestle that was the 8-2 win in New Zealand.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Payne Haas | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 20 | 185 | 36 |
SECOND ROW –
COREY HORSBURGH (Raiders)
Seemed a bit light on for stand out second rowers this week, so we’ll go with one that caught the eye despite being in the losing side in Canberra.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Corey Horsburgh | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 17 | 178 | 34 |
SECOND ROW – ALEX GLENN (Broncos)
A good performance in a tough game in New Zealand. Broncos are lucky they’ve held onto Glenn and not included him in the pre season broom of Seibold.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Alex Glenn | 0 | 0 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 9 | 103 | 37 |
LOCK – JASON TAUMALOLO (Cowboys)
A welcome return for the Cowboys, and they had looked far more likely to win since his return. He led the Cowboys to a rare win in Canberra.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Jason Taumalolo | 0 | 0 | 7 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 20 | 251 | 34 |
INTERCHANGE – CAMERON MURRAY (Rabbitohs)
Has been suitably rewarded for his fine 2019 season with a Blues jersey. Vying for our Team of the Week every week. More than making up for the loss of Angus Crichton.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Cameron Murray | 0 | 2 | 0 | 8 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 17 | 147 | 43 |
INTERCHANGE – COREY THOMPSON (Tigers)
Maybe because we love an underdog, but Corey Thompson always seems to impress with his infectious enthusiasm. He filled in admirably at fullback last weekend.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Corey Thompson | 0 | 1 | 14 | 4 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 19 | 187 | 3 |
INTERCHANGE – EDRICK LEE (Knights)
Not often there are multiple wingers in our NRL Team of the Week, but hard to overlook Edrick Lee’s contribution in the win over the Roosters.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Edrick Lee | 0 | 1 | 7 | 4 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 18 | 205 | 0 |
INTERCHANGE – KALYN PONGA (Knights)
More of the best from a player who is in almost competition best form since his return to fullback. Put in the occasional big hit too to warm himself up for Origin.
Player | Try Assist | Tries | Tackle Breaks | Points | Line Break | LB Assists | Errors | Runs | Metres | Tackles |
Kalyn Ponga | 1 | 1 | 5 | 18 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 10 | 102 | 5 |
