NRL Round 7 Team of the Week

Hard to believe we’re up to round 7 already, and our NRL Round 7 Team of the Week is ready for discussion.

After sitting through all of the eight NRL Round 7 games, we may as well have something constructive to show for it.

Our NRL Round 7 Team of the Week list features the best players from the weekend, and where possible try to pick the 13 players in position, and then the next best four, where possible. But some positions don’t shine like others, so we have a flexible starting 13 from time to time.

Of course any Team of the Week is going to cause debate, so feel free to pick apart our NRL Round 7 Team of the Week.

NRL Round 7 Team of the Week

FULLBACK – KALYN PONGA (Knights)

Fancy moving one of the player’s back to their best position ending up in that player doing much better, and the team starting to win. The move to number six will come in time, but good enough to enjoy Ponga at the back for now.

Kalyn Ponga 0 1 3 16 0 0 2 12 160 8

WINGER – MAHE FONUA (Tigers)

he man with the best hair in rugby league certainly made it a party at the back with tries, and breaks galore, leading the Tigers to their come from behind win.

Mahe Fonua 0 3 4 12 1 0 2 19 178 6

CENTRE – ESAN MARSTERS (Tigers)

Has been one of the more underrated players this season, and had another big night out in Tamworth.

Esan Marsters 1 1 10 10 1 1 1 15 172 9

CENTRE –  JARROD CROKER (Raiders)

Talking of underrated, the Raiders centre is more than just a goal kicker.

Jarrod Croker 1 0 3 8 2 0 0 12 152 9

WINGER – KEN MAUMALO (Warriors)

The big Warriors winger was in fine form against the Storm, and is one big unit for a winger.

Ken Maumalo 0 1 5 4 1 0 0 27 228 2

FIVE EIGHTH – CODY WALKER (Rabbitohs)

Cody Walker is in career best form, which is saying something given his short but outstanding career so far in the NRL has had plenty of highlights. Imagine if the Rabbitohs can sign Latrell Mitchell or James Roberts to play alongside him.

PROP – MARTIN TAUPAU (Sea Eagles)

Another week of making our team of the week, Taupau and his fellow nominee for the front row this week have done the job every week that they’ve played. Probably our favourite prop.

Martin Taupau 0 1 7 4 1 0 0 15 156 19

HOOKER – JAKE FRIEND (Roosters)

Played down the house while he was on the field. Ended up injured which is poor timing given he had just seen off a rival for the Maroons number 9 jersey in Ben Hunt.

SECOND ROW – VILIAME KIKAU (Panthers)

We’ve been huge fans of big Bill Kikau since he was given his NRL chance, and he looks better every week. A worry for opposition.

LOCK – CAMERON MURRAY (Rabbitohs)

Another week, another slot in the Team of the Week. Souths best forward this season so far, and not a bad feat among some big lads he has as team mates.

A standout performance from Milford, who was due a good one. Just in time too, with talk of Kodi Nikorima looking to move on.

INTERCHANGE – ADAM REYNOLDS (Rabbitohs)

Guided the Rabbitohs home on Friday night, his kicking game was up to the usual standard. And it was good to see him occasionally running the ball.
