A Who Cares 2019 Bahrain Grand Prix Preview

The second race of the 2019 Formula 1 season is almost here, and given we’ll be up late watching the race, it would be lazy of us if we didn’t provide a 2019 Bahrain Grand Prix Preview.

But our 2019 Bahrain Grand Prix Preview isn’t just any old look ahead to a Grand Prix, we attempt to come up with a Care Factor rating for the race itself, use a variety of stats to determine a winner and to barely entertain the readers, and throw in some of our bold claims for the race ahead.

THE 2019 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX CARE FACTOR

Should you care about the Bahrain Grand Prix? Here is our break down of why you should / shouldn’t.

TRACK  – 5/10

A typically Tilke design which would hard to tell from a few others if it weren’t for the masses of sand on either side of the tarmac.

HISTORY – 3/10

The Bahrain Grand Prix around since 2004, and in that time it is hard to recall any races of note, aside from a night race wit ha great battle between the MErcedes team mates of Rosberg and Hamilton. Prior to waiving a big wad of cash under Bernie’s nose, it was hard to associate Bahrain with motorsport.

RACING POTENTIAL – 5/10

It has some big, long straights, and with DRS we should see something. The middle section doesn’t allow for much, except the occasional ambitious piece of driving into the double left handers.

IMPORTANCE – 6/10

Important to a degree as a follow up to what we learned in Australia, but not super critical as it is early in the season.

BUZZ – 5/10

There is still that early season enthusiasm, and it will be interesting to give the new aero a real test in Bahrain, to see if overtaking will be improved. The night race adds a little something, but for those in the western Pacific it is an awkward time slot.
