Champions League Matchday 6 Predictions – Gurgler v Losing

Big week of Champions League this week, as some big teams fight to make the knockout stages, and we honour the occasion with our Champions League Matchday 6 Predictions.

And as ever we put our tips up against a unique opponent, usually based on a football statistic but sometimes not, much like our semi popular Premier League tips.

We’ll also throw in a minimum of information for a quick preview of Champions League Matchday 6 Predictions for those on the go.

Time to set the alarm and get up that little bit early in Australia, or get home early from work/the pub elsewhere in the world for Champions League Matchday 6 Predictions.

Champions League Matchday 6 Predictions

Gurgler v Losing

Opponent Tips Background: With the high pressure of Champions League survival on the line, it’s as important as ever

So for the Champions Matchday 6 we have based our opponent tips on how many/few games each team has lost in both the national league and Champions League this season.

Of course the fewer games lost, the better the team is going, so they get the tip. The overall loss record is at the end for some barely interesting stat.

But first, our selections, which are based on a mixture of listening to multiple podcasts and reading way too many websites, added with ignorance to all of that with our own thoughts.

Champions League Matchday 6 – Four Games to Watch

You can’t watch everything, well actually you can if you have Optus Sport and no job or life, so we select our four games to watch for the Champions League Matchday 6 ahead.

Times in ADST for the poor souls who have to get up early.

GROUP B (Tuesday)

Barcelona v Spurs / Inter v PSV

Spurs need an unlikely win in Barcelona to guarantee themselves knockout football, but given they rested their stars on the weekend, and Barcelona could potentially rest theirs since they are already qualified, then Spurs may just do it. Inter have the easier fixture, but will need to better Spurs result.

GROUP C (Tuesday)

Liverpool v Napoli / Red Star v PSG

It is out of Napoli (9pts +3), PSG (8pts +5) and Liverpool (6pts +1) for the two spots in the knockout stage of the Champions League, and to avoid the Thursday night Europa League. PSG have the easier assignment on paper at Red Star, but the Serbian club have beaten Liverpool and drawn with Napoli at home this season. If Liverpool draw or lose, they are gone. Winning should get them home. If they play like they did against Bournemouth then they will, however Napoli also won 4-0 in the league on the weekend. Liverpool v Napoli is the stand out fixture.

AJAX v BAYERN MUNICH (Wednesday)

The only game in the Champions league Matchday 6 where the two teams playing each other have both qualified. This could mean open, devil-may-care football or wrapped-in-cotton-wool borefest. We’ll go for the former as Bayern will want to prove they are still the big German team despite trailing Dortmund by plenty in the league.

SHAKHTAR DONETSK v LYON (Wednesday)

A Head to Head for the knockout stages. Despite being undefeated against Man City this season (1W 1D), the four draws in five matches has kept the Ukrainian side within a chance of making the knockout stages. There should be plenty of goals too, aside from the Man City thrashings, Shakhtar’s games have ended up 2-2, 2-2, 3-2. The hipster’s choice for Wednesday’s games.
