A new week, and another new theme week to be launched, this one is to celebrate one of the least popular modern names by acknowledging International Gary Week. Or Garry Week, depending on your preference.
The name Gary or Garry seems to be disappearing from the modern day Book of Names for Boys, or the website equivalent, so following on from our own advice of How to Create a Website that no one reads, we have chosen one of the names growing more obscure by the day and creating a whole celebration week for it.
As ever with any of our fantastic theme week celebrations, we will also suggest a few of our favourite things to match the theme week.
So this week we pick our six favourite Gary/Garry of all time.
OUR FAVOURITE INTERNATIONAL GARY WEEK GARY/GARRY OF ALL TIME
GARY COLEMAN
Known best for his character Arnold from Diff’rent Strokes, and within that his iconic catchphrase of “What You Talkin’ About Willis?”, we remember him fondly for some of his best work from that saccharine sitcom.
Medical issues kept him at his diminutive status, and there was a few legal and financial problems throughout his post Strokes career, like many a child actor, the biggest was suing his adoptive parents and winning $1.3M.
He gets the tick of approval for being a model railway nerd.
Sadly, he died in 2010.
What we didn’t know, what this excellent piece of his work doing an impression of Mr T. Enjoy.

GARY LINEKER
Great footballer, great football broadcaster, a hard task and all doing it without being hated by everyone.
Heads up the second best football show on the planet (Match of the Day after Soccer Saturday) something that is greatly missed in Australia and after the crackdown of illegal downloading.
Our favourite English Gary by far.
GARRY KASPAROV
For a website that likes to celebrate the obscure and has a celebration of International Gary Week, who better than to have the man widely regarded as the best Chess player ever – Garry Kasparov.
From an era in the Soviet Union where Chess was probably the height of fun, he was World Number 1 for almost two decades.
GARRY SHANDLING
Mainly because we used to love The Larry Sanders Show.
GARY SINISE
Selected for his sterling work as Lieutenant Dan Taylor, and to a lesser extent, everything else.
GARRI
Why do they all have to be human? Why not something edible for International Gary Week.
How about Garri from Africa?
From Wikipedia – to make Garri, cassava tubers are peeled, washed and grated or crushed to produce a mash. And who doesn’t love a peeled cassava tuber.
