This time  we offer some who cares thoughts on England v Colombia Round of 16 clash.

GAME 8 – WED 4:00 (AEST) – ENGLAND v COLOMBIA

THE WHO CARES QUALIFYING STORY

So will the great race for second place pay off? The tactic to finish second in Group G looks like it will pay off big time for England….if they can win the next game, and the next game, and so on.

An easier side of the draw was made even better when Russia knocked out Spain, and now a pathway exists for a new team to make the final, or an old powerhouse to reach the top again as in England’s case. There hasn’t been a chance like this at any World Cup.

Despite the dross offered up by the Group G B Grade battle , England have actually looked quite good in the other group stages. Got past Tunisia in a game that previous World Cups would have seen  draw at best, and put Panama away 6-1 in a display that is usually saved for every game against qualifying minnows like San Marino.

Things have never looked better for a full World Cup tilt. But there is still an uneasy feeling that they will choke.

Colombia have looked quite in qualifying. They played really well in their first game with just 10 players and minimal James against Japan, and the Japanese form against Belgium this morning shows that it is a good form line. They thrashed Poland in their first game at near full strength and with 11 players, and got the job done against Senegal.

Falcao, Quintero are looking great, and if James can play they offer up a great challenge to England, one we think they can win.

ENGLAND – 2nd Group G – 6pts – GD +5
Best Goal difference of any 2nd placed team and better than 5 Group winners. Imagined if they played three games.
COLOMBIA – 1st Group H – 6pts – GD +3
Recovered after receiving a Red Card in their first five World Cup minutes and losing to Japan.
