Inspired by Rampage – More New Movies based on Old Video Games

A lot of movies these days seem to be remakes, sequels, prequels, based on a comic book, and now even old video games. The latest of the old old video games to get a reboot on the big screen is Rampage.

Rampage was a reasonably obscure Sega game that involved a King Kong, Godzilla, and Werewolf bashing buildings, punching helicopters, and eating people. But it somehow was turned into a movie.

As ever, we like to think about what we would do with a truckload of other people’s money and time to burn (a real worry if it ever happened), and what old video games we could turn into a movie.

Once again, we’ll be trying to come up with the most obscure old video games we can think of. So provided for your pleasure are our list of Old Video Games that should become Movies.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World

The Built-In backbone to the Sega Master System II is surely an old video game that could be turned into a full length movie.

Flying motorbikes through the forest, underwater scenes, caves, and the infamous games of Rock, Paper, Scissors.

A wonderful adventure film for all the family, it could be a modern day Neverending Story, minus the giant flying dog thing.

Golden Axe

Given the popularity of Game of Thrones and Vikings TV Shows, who wouldn’t want to go along and see a feature length version of the old video game Golden Axe.

The Canberra Raiders mascot lookalike main star could be played by any former WWE wrestler.

If it is good enough to make a movie based on an old video game of giant Godzilla and King King eating people out of Skyscrapers, then surely Golden Axe

Paperboy

Another late 80’s staple of old video games, it should be well known enough to turn into something in decent movie.

Would be live action which would start off with the spills and thrills of the lost art delivering newspaper by bicycle, and then perhaps take a turn into action, with a nasty plot discovered on the route.

It would be a modern day version of the classic garbageman movie Men At Work which starred Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez.

Frogger

Quite how you would get a feature length film out of a frog crossing a road and river with logs that turn into alligators is hard to tell, but you could certainly ramp up the road crossing to the heights of the movie Speed.

From there you could channel Deliverance, Anaconda, and an obscure 1980’s horror movie Alligator for the second half.

Thinking Snakes on a Plane meets Speed. Nicolas Cage to play the Frog.

Teddy Boy

Here’s real challenge, the most obscure video game we can remember, and from a time where Sega Master System II was the world’s greatest box O fun.

Hard to say what would actually happen in the movie, but it would be a real stoner’s special, with loads of Psychedelic gear. With its infinitely-repeating maze backgrounds, perhaps it could be a movie that never actually ends.

Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego

We were going to suggest this epic gumshoe game with lessons in Geography, but sadly someone has already thought of it here.

Kaaps doesn’t sleep much, and has a 60inch full HD TV and Foxtel, therefore watches more television than most. is also very strange and has a slightly different outlook on life, so comes up with a lot of rubbish that he thinks is funny and usually isn’t. Out of sympathy, we publish his stuff from time to time. So prepare your sympathy laughs and put that lovely drawing on the fridge for Kaaps.
