The 2018 Commonwealth Games has finished as it started, with a slightly/massively underwhelming ceremony (depending on your viewpoint), but before we consign the Gold Coast game to a mere Wikipedia record, where road closures, delayed Buses and Peter Beattie will be forgotten, it is time to remember and acknowledge some of the Gold Medal winners.
The Gurgler is a website that loves to Celebrate the lesser known, celebrate the forgotten, and we’re sure that a few of the Gold Medals winners will slip into obscurity before too long, so we’ve dedicated our theme week for this to Celebrate those who won Gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, but likely not to be mentioned too much in the near future.
That’s not to say that all competitors shouldn’t be recognised, so we salute everyone too.
We’ve discounted the swimmers, as no sport in Commonwealth Games / Olympics gets more coverage in Australia, often to the point of overkill. Probably because we win heaps, so fair enough.
Out too is Boxing, as they can turn professional and make a decent living.
Cycling and Track and Field get plenty of air time too. Especially if you are related to a Test Cricketer.
But what we want to celebrate are the Gold Medal winners from sports which outside of these and other games get bugger all interest. To acknowledge the sports that barely got headlines even as they win. It’s not intended to be condescending, but to be a place where the forgotten are celebrate and treasured.
So, get yourself into the 2018 Commonwealth Games one last time to salute the 2018 Commonwealth Games Soon to be Forgotten Gold Medal Winners Week
