XXXX Rivalry Round kicks off at Piggabeen between the two Gold Coast rivals, Burleigh have an impressive 2/2 to start the 2018 season, Tweed Heads are at the other end of the ladder. SATURDAY 5pm – EASTS TIGERS v IPSWICH JETS

VIEW: TIGERSTV – click here for more

The Tigers just got home against the Mackay Cutters in what looked an entertaining game. Ipswich always entertain, and they had an impressive win over the Townsville Blackhawks last weekend. There were rumours of PNG International Thompson Teteh joining the Jets, which would have made for an outstanding three quarter line up with Marmin Barba back.

  1. Scott Drinkwater 2. Linc Port 3. Kea Pere 4. Conor Carey 5. Jarrod McInally 6. Joseph Bond 7. Brayden Torpy 8. Dave Tyrrell 9. Chris Ostwald 10. Patrick Kaufusi 11. Jake Foster (c) 12. SATURDAY 6pm – MACKAY CUTTERS v CENTRAL CAPRAS

A Central Queensland rivalry on Saturday as the Cutters look for the first win of the year, and Capras hoping to get one win over their nearest rivals for a change. The Cutters responded well to the first week thrashing by Townsville with a very competitive showing against Easts in Brisbane last weekend. More luck on the goal kicking may have seen them be victorious. Central did beat Easts in the first round, but were soundly beaten by Norths in Rockhampton last round.

SATURDAY 6pm – TOWNSVILLE BLACKHAWKS v NORTHERN PRIDE

After smashing Mackay in their first game, the Blackhawks were grounded last weekend by the Jets, proving they are beatable on their day. The Northern Pride accounted for the 2017 premiers reasonably easily in Cairns last weekend, but playing the Blackhawks in Townsville is no reward

Last Year – Pride 18 Townsville 28  —  Townsville 32 Pride 10

Teams

Townsville Blackhawks

  1. Carlin Anderson 2. Jonathon Reuben 3. Shaun Hudson 4. Kalifa Faifai-Loa 5. Michael Carroll 6. Jaelen Feeney 7. Zach Docker-Clay 8. Francis Molo 9. Krys Freeman 10. Rod Griffin 11. Jake Marketo 12. Andrew Niemoeller (c) 13. Joe Boyce 14. Jordan Kenworthy 16. Ross Bella 17. Temone Power 22. Sione Lousi

SUNDAY 3pm – WYNNUM SEAGULLS v REDCLIFFE DOLPHINS

View: Wynnum Live Stream – click here for more

XXXX Rivalry Round heads to the Bayside as the Wynnum Seagulls and Redcliffe Dolphins meet to compete for the Bayside Herald Cup. Redcliffe are yet to win a game so far in 2018 and find themselves in rare territory towards the bottom of the Intrust Super Cup ladder. Wynnum were on track for a 100% start to the season until a Falcons comeback was sealed with a late field goal last weekend. The Seagulls will be hoping to inflict a rare third straight loss to start the season for Redcliffe.

SUNDAY 3pm – SOUTHS LOGAN MAGPIES v NORTHS DEVILS

The clash of the weekend based on ladder position, as two of the three undefeated sides go head to head, in the traditional Sunday afternoon timeslot. Norths have had two good wins against Tweed Heads and the Capras to sit on top of the Intrust Super Cup ladder after two rounds, but this week’s opposition the Magpies should prove a tougher test.

Souths Logan Magpies

  1. Corey Allan 2. Cameron Booth 3. Marion Seve 4. Scott Doyle 5. Lenny Magey 6. Guy Hamilton 7. Sam Scarlett 8. George Fai 9. Jordan Scott 10. Sam Lavea 11. Simi Fatafehi 12. Brendon Gibb 13. Patrick Mago 14. Bradley Frith 15. Phil Dennis (c) 16. Uiti Baker 17. Thomas Flegler 20. Rhys Melville

SUNDAY 3pm – SUNSHINE COAST FALCONS v PNG HUNTERS

The XXXX Rivalry Round finishes up in the best possible way, the 2017 Grand Final Rematch. Those that were at the ground will never forget the atmosphere, the pain of that loss could stir them into another big performance at home to the Hunters. The Falcons have beaten the Hunters three times in a row on the Sunshine Coast now, and last years 38-14 was particularly impressive, although PNG had the last laugh.

Last Year – Falcons 38 Hunters 14  — Hunters 12 Falcons 10 (Grand Final)

Sunshine Coast Falcons

  1. Ryan Papenhuyzen 2. Matt Soper-Lawler 3. Justin Olam 4. Jye Ballinger 5. Alex Copelin 6. Kurt Aldridge 7. Brentt Warr 18. Tui Kamikamica 9. Harry Grant 10. Lachlan Timm 11. Dane Hogan (c) 12. Christopher Lewis 13. Harrison Muller 14. Jacob Hind 15. Liam McDonald 16. Louis Geraghty 17. Lachlan Roe 19. Connor Donehue

PNG HUNTERS EXTRA

Time for a little bit extra on our favourite sporting team in the world.

Here’s this week’s team….

  1. Stargroth Amean 2. Wawa Paul 3. Adex Wera 4. Willie Minoga 5. Brendon Gotuno 6. Ase Boas (c) 7. Watson Boas 8. Moses Meninga 9. Wartovo Puara 10. Dilbert Issac 11. Nixon Putt 12. John Andy 13. Rahdly Brawa 14. Charlie Simon 15. Ila Alu 16. Silas Gahuna 17. Mekenzie Yei 18. William Mone 19. Junior Rau 20. Patrick Morea

Coach: Michael Marum

And some thoughts…

Stargroth Amean has been named back at fullback allowing Adex Wera to return to the centres. A bit more reshuffling in the forward pack as the Hunters look to avoid a second straight defeat in 2018, they seem to be missing the Albert brothers just a little in 2018, and why wouldn’t they after their efforts last year.

They need to turn around a poor record on the Sunshine Coast against the Falcons. The Hunters haven’t won at the Sunshine Coast Stadium since 2014, but at least have last year’s Grand Final win to show for their efforts elsewhere.

The Hunters will find it hard, but they can still rely on captain and five eighth Ase Boas, who scored another fine try against the Pride and is rich point scoring form. The more you see of Ase Boas, the more the thought is that he could easily compete in the NRL if given the chance.

Importantly, Willie Minoga remains in the centres.
