An Alternative NRL Round 2 Preview – The Kick To Come

Welcome to the Kick to Come – our alternative NRL Round 2 Preview of all the big Rugby League ahead this weekend.

We supply the shortest possible match by match preview, pick a few things were are excited about, and why we are reaching for the pillow, there’s the NRL’s most pointless tipping competition, and a Wrasse sized bit about NRL odds/betting, a dabble into Supercoach and we have the low down on the Rugby League on TV to let you do your best sloth-work.

Doing many things, with not a lot of quality, just the way we like it.

Want to read more? Of course you do. The Gold and/or Platinum that is our NRL Round 2 Preview awaits.

NRL ROUND 2 PREVIEW – MATCH BY MATCH IN 20 WORDS OR LESS

THURSDAY 6:50pm QLD SHARKS v DRAGONS

Local derby between two sides who had differing fortunes against Queensland opposition last weekend. The Dragons made the Broncos look silly, the Sharks battled as they always do, and got close despite being the second best side. Josh Dugan provides the side interest in his first game against the Dragons.

FRIDAY 5pm QLD – ROOSTERS v BULLDOGS

Roosters shocked the comp and most tipsters with a loss to the Tigers last weekend, and a loss to the Bulldogs – who looked OK against the Storm in Perth – would shock again. A 0-2 start after their off season spending. Side interest is how few people turn up to the TV friendly timeslot for one of the lowest followed teams.

FRIDAY 6:50pm – BRONCOS v COWBOYS

Panic stations at the Broncos as some realise their halves may not be up to scratch, their forwards certainly are. But they don’t have halves like the Cowboys if Michael Morgan plays tonight, Morgan particularly likes playing the Broncos it seems. Cowboys like to ride horses, so logic says they will ride Brisbane on Friday night. Side interest is how Matt Lodge is received at home.

SATURDAY 2pm – WARRIORS v TITANS

New Zealand winning in Perth, and away from home in the first half of the season? Titans winning at all? Both results were a surprise, and now one of the unfancied runners for 2018 can get themselves a 2-0 start to the season. Side interest is Shaun Johnson v Ashley Taylor head to head, both match winners last weekend.

SATURDAY 4:30pm – PANTHERS v RABBITOHS

Despite a myriad of off season departures and rumblings off field the Panthers did the job against the much hyped Eels. Souths looked a little better than 2017, and the loss of Reynolds may be a good thing as it gives Cody Walker more ball, and will reduce the number of bombs that finish the set. Side interest Sutton v Kikau.

SATURDAY 6:30pm – STORM v TIGERS

Another win for the Storm? Perhaps not after the Tigers muscled their way past the much fancied Roosters last weekend. True Tigers fan believe it possible. Side interest more Sam Kasiano.

SUNDAY 3:10pm – SEA EAGLES v EELS

Sunday afternoon, check. Two Sydney teams, check. Parramatta, check. Certainly sounds like the Sunday game on Channel Nein is ticking the right boxes. Gives them the opportunity to go on about Jarryd Hayne. Side interest – the game.

SUNDAY 5:30pm QLD – RAIDERS v KNIGHTS

Canberra look to have the rights on the weekend’s second worst timeslot, a shame as they can play some great football and then not and infuriate Ricky Stuart, which is also fun to watch. Talking of great football, Newcastle’s win last weekend was a great rugby league story. Side interest Kalyn Ponga.

NRL ROUND 2 PREVIEW – 3 THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO

1 – The increased use of the term – Origin Bolter. We already have one confirmed case from last weekend.

2 – Broncos v Cowboys – always a top clash.

3 – The NZ commentators for the first time in 2018.

NRL ROUND 2 PREVIEW – THINGS TO AVOID THIS WEEKEND

Channel Nein, always.

Hopefully more tedious penalties.

Probably the Roosters-Bulldogs game if you’re not a fan.

NRL ROUND 2 PREVIEW – TIPPING COMPETITION

Time to see how well we can tip. And what kind of ridiculous things we can use for a tipping compeditor. As ever the dog is back as our resident Paul the World Cup Tipping Octopus. Who will triumph in Rugby League’s most pointless tipping competition? Find our below.
