Welcome to Sports Shorts, our look at the best of the Sporting Weekend 17th December.
With so much happening every weekend in sports, we attempt to highlight some of the best and worst to save you time or reading the 2017 Jerk of the Year contender Courier Mail.
There’s also our 2017 Person of the Year, where voting is underway and features plenty of sporting heroes.
Onto our latest attempt at a sporting review.
BEST OF THE WEEKEND
Here’s a list of the very best of the sporting weekend. According to us that is.
MITCHELL MARSH – Responded to almost universal amazement at his inclusion in the WACA Test with a big score. About time, and let’s hope for everyone’s sake, that the run continues.
THE QRL INTRUST SUPER CUP DRAW RELEASED – the new season awaits, but first the draw is out.
MANCHESTER CITY – Continue to win and ruin any chance of a title race by destroying Spurs.
POOR MAN’S TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES INVADE FIELD OF RENNES v PSG – Always good to see a poorly dressed themed pitch invader.
THE ULTIMATE HOGG (Best of the Best)
STEVE SMITH – Best batsman since…. Best captain since… Best everything since.
WORST OF THE WEEKEND
For all the good that sport brings every weekend, there’s always some bad, and here’s the worst of it from the sporting weekend 17th December.
WACA PITCH – Always a good look when there are multiple Leaf Blowers on a pitch.
ANGUS CRICHTON SIGNING FOR ROOSTERS FOR 2019 – the NRL suck. Really. As if Marvel Superhero and ruining the comp around Origin weren’t bad enough comes the latest player to sign for a club for the following season before the end of the current year. It is a ridiculous set up that only the amateurs of NRL would allow. And not because he is a soon to be Ex Souths player, we were equally annoyed at Ben Hunts move to the Dragons.
WILLIAMS F1 TEAM – not confirming Robert Kubica for 2018 liked we hoped and they said they would on Friday. Could lose out to Formula 2 runner Sirotkin.
The ULTIMATE CHAVES (Worst in Dross)
CHANNEL NEIN CRICKET COMMENTARY – Got our first taste of the summer, and could only cop 15 minutes before heading back to ABC Grandstand.
CONTROVERSY CORNER
Time to throw a controversial thought out there for the 2.4 people that read this, at best.
For all the greatness of the Marsh brothers achievements in consecutive weeks, we will hold off jumping on the bandwagon. For players dropped as much as they are , we will wait until at least the end of the summer before nodding in agreement at the I Told You So of the Marsh Brothers and Selectors.
Their next axing and controversial recall is just around the corner.
Why not enjoy our theme of Celebrate Your Favourite Marsh Week.
GREAT MOMENTS IN……
WACA TEST MATCHES
With the WACA about to give way for a new mega Stadium in Perth, and the Ashes wrapped up today in Perth, we pay tribute to the WACA.
- Dennis Lillee kicking Javed Miandad up the arse.
- Curtley Ambrose taking 7/1 in a spell in 1993.
- Ross Taylor scores 290 for New Zealand on flatest WACA pitch ever in 2015,
- Matthew Hayden scoring a million runs v power house Zimbabwe.
- Adam Gilchrist scores the second fastest ton ever v England in 2006.
- Australia takes back the Ashes in 2017.
LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS WEEKEND….
Now we wrapped up the previous weekend nicely, here is the best of what’s to come this week.
- Big Bash Cricket Kicks Off – read our 2017=2018 Big Bash Preview.
- REAL MADRID v BARCELONA – Saturday Night @ 11/10PM on Bein Sport.
TATTOO OF THE WEEK
Given modern day sporting stars and tattoos now go hand in hand, what better way to finish up a sporting review, than to have a Tattoo of the Week.
Enjoy.
