The 2017 Gurgler Person of the Year nomination announcements end with a familiar face, PNG Hunters forward and 2015 Gurgler Person of the Year Willie Minoga.
The Gurgler’s 2017 Person of the Year is a celebration of the people we think are important or deserving of some much needed limelight, not necessarily the most famous people on the face of the earth, in fact most would have barely heard of some of our nominees. Those who don’t follow Queensland Cup and Rugby League World Cup, or have ever come to this website before will have no idea what they are missing out on.
That’s the way we like it, celebration the forgotten, the underappreciated, the unsung heroes, the lesser lights, the Gurgler People of the Year.

2017 PERSON OF THE YEAR – NOMINATION 6
WILLIE MINOGA
If bustling impact forward from the PNG Hunters and Kumuls is nominated for one thing and one thing only it will be that moment in the 78th minute when he made history for PNG rugby league by scoring the try that won the 2017 Intrust Super Cup premiership for the PNG Hunters.
We weren’t surprised, as we called a Hunters title before the start of the season.
But after years of talking Willie Minoga and PNG Hunters, that moment produced one of the sweetest sporting moments ever, and we were there live along with 11,000 other fans.
That big moment aside, Willie Minoga was also fantastic in the Rugby League World Cup, putting on a show for league fans all over the world. He also made our Team of the World Cup.
The man known as the Freight Train, Mack Truck is in contention to be the first person to win two Person of the Year awards, but with the joy brought in 2017, he had to be included again.

The Voice of Australian Football, may no longer be with us, but he can still be our Person of the Year.

The Tennis Jerks may not be nice, likeable, or indeed People of the Year, but their contribution to content here means they are a must include.
6 – Willie Minoga
The 2015 Person of the Year delivered the greatest live sporting moment in history as he scored the winning try to allow the PNG Hunters to win the Intrust Super Cup.
