With Time Magazine unveiling their Person of the Year edition, it is about time we open up the 2017 Gurgler Person of the Year nominations with the first being Brad the Traffic Guy from ABC Brisbane Radio. Unlike Time magazine, we give the ultimate power back to the readers and let you decide the ultimate winner. Voting will open soon once all nominations have been announced.
The Gurgler’s 2017 Person of the Year is a celebration of the people we think are important or deserving of some much needed limelight, not necessarily the most famous people on the face of the earth, in fact most would have barely heard of some of our nominees.
That’s the way we like it, celebration of the forgotten, the underappreciated, the unsung heroes, the lesser lights, the Gurgler People of the Year.
You can also Vote for 2017 Jerk of the Year. But we’re trying to be a little more positive here for the 2017 Person of the Year.
2017 PERSON OF THE YEAR – NOMINATION 1
BRAD THE TRAFFIC GUY
Cities are getting bigger, and driving around them is becoming more difficult, and that’s where you need a calm voice of expertise to guide you around quickly and safely. That voice of reason, delivered with a smile you can hear is Brad the Traffic Guy.
Brad the Traffic Guy is familiar voice if you are a regular to ABC Brisbane, and if you are not, why aren’t you. He guides the people of Brisbane through the myriad of daily problems, using caused by Uber Drivers, Hondas or the Gateway Motorway.
But he does it with a smile in his voice, often with a joyful banter that can’t be faked. A pleasant addition to the afternoon, often when delivering unpleasant news. Like the 500th consecutive weekday of the Western Freeway being stuffed since they opened Legacy Way.
It’s not just what he does, it is how he does it. He is a part of a Brisbane morning and afternoon, and his on air rapport with the radio presenters makes him more than just a traffic presenter.
Television use sponsored helicopter riders with video footage to inform about traffic problems, but despite all that expense, no one does it better than Brad the Traffic Guy. Commercial radio have their updates, but they are not delivered wit the same passion or fun as Brad the Traffic Guy. One senses he loves what he does, and the people of Brisbane love him back. Even during Origin time where he is a keen Blues supporter.
Brad the Traffic Guy is exactly the type of person who should be nominated – unsung hero, great at what he does no matter how obscure, and a bit of a cult hero. And that is why he has been nominated for 2017 Person of the Year.
The first nomination no less.
So if you have had your afternoon or morning commute saved by Brad the Traffic Guy, why not lend him your support once voting opoens.
