Celebrate National Love An Australian Bird Week

Time to celebrate one of the more forgotten Australian Animal Treasures with our National Love An Australian Bird Week.

First of all, we mean feathered friend, not a double-entendre for anything else.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a new Theme week, as we’ve been wrapped up in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup and the 4 straight weeks of Celerbate a Rugby League World Cup Minnow. Since PNG are now out of the competition and only the final remains, we see no need to continue with it.

The idea for National Love An Australian Bird Week came from an article on the Guardian Australia website, where they are asking readers to vote for their favourite bird.

VOTE HERE FOR THE GUARDIAN AUSTRALIA’S BIRD OF THE YEAR

What a great idea, but the list could do with some culling. Quality over quantity.

It is hard to see anyone voting for a Magpie as Australian Bird of the Year this close to swooping season. And the bird widely known as a Dump Bird – Ibis – is hardly an animal that would evoke too much Australian pride.

But maybe there are Magpies and Ibis fans out there, we can’t stand them and won’t be voting for them.

It wouldn’t be a celebration week in general or a National Love An Australian Bird Week without The Gurgler having their say about their favourite Australian Birds.

WILLY WAGTAIL

Great name, and a smooth mover and inventor of the twerk well before humans made it famous.

PELICAN

If only for the little rhyme about its beak and belly.

BROLGA

Great sounding name, and gives its title to the Maryborough Cultural Centre where we saw Kevin Bloody Wilson.

AUSTRALIAN BUSTARD

Included for name only, know absolutely nothing about it.

MAJOR MITCHELL’S COCKATOO

A famous bird that as rare as an appearance from us at a Bird Watchers group.

PLUCKA DUCK

A forgotten relic of the Australian Bird World who wouldn’t survive in the modern world, as he would have been sued many times for sexual harassment and frogmarched from the entertainment industry.

The myth that he was actually Ken Morgan from Plucka Duck major sponsor Ken Morgan Toyota has never been answered, or cared for.

Kaaps doesn’t sleep much, and has a 60inch full HD TV and Foxtel, therefore watches more television than most. is also very strange and has a slightly different outlook on life, so comes up with a lot of rubbish that he thinks is funny and usually isn’t. Out of sympathy, we publish his stuff from time to time. So prepare your sympathy laughs and put that lovely drawing on the fridge for Kaaps.
