All New Queensland Public Holidays – Celebrate Create Your Own Public Holiday Week

The Queensland State Election took a interesting turn this week when the Greens outlined the headline busting news of their policy for new Queensland Public Holidays.

Not a bad idea really, and the Greens suggested the four holidays be as below…

  • International Women’s Day
  • State of Origin III day
  • National Parks holiday
  • A day of significance for First Nations communities

It certainly got some airplay, something that is not often associated with Greens Party, and a light-hearted sidetrack to the tedium of he said she said State Election campaigns.

But it is easy for the Greens Party to announce such fanciful rubbish, as they are never likely to never win more than 1 seat let alone going to win a government. Perhaps they should also promise no taxes, free trips to the moon, and a Malcolm Roberts for every classroom in Queensland for all the use of them promising anything.

So we say, let’s get everyone to vote for them and make them cough up the extra Public Holidays. About time the Greens were good for something.

It got us thinking though, since they’re talking about new Public Holidays, and the suggestion has been made for taking the day of State of Origin 3 off, we say we could come up with a few new ones ourselves as we celebrate Create Your Own New Queensland Public Holiday Week…..

35 DEGREE / 80 % HUMIDITY DAY

Sometimes it is far too hot in Queensland to do any work, so we say a new Queensland Public Holiday should involve all outside workers not having to doing anything after the temperature climbs past 35.0 degrees and 80% humidity.

Those who work in air conditioning never fear, you don’t miss out, as this holiday become Working Without Air Con for more than an Hour Day.

ONE FREE HANGOVER DAY

Given that a lot of sickies are caused by over indulgence on the (Ian) Turps, and that having a beer or equivalent is a Queensland way of life, why not have a One Free Hangover Day.

Much like a Get Out of Jail Free Card in Moopoly, this annual leave pass will get you guilt free Monday to Friday phone in once a year.

CELEBRATE RSL/LEAGUES CLUB DAY OUT

Much like alcohol, popping down to the local RSL, Bowls Club or Leagues Club is a way of life, and one that must be treasured for future generations.

So why not give all Queenslanders one free midweek day off in an innovative new Queensland Public Holiday. Now you take a whole day off to play Queen of the Nile, bet on some very slow Harness racing and have a quality meal.

Note: you must provide either membership details or receipts that prove you have spent $10 on any form of wagering and $20 in food and/or beverage.

XMAS SHOPPING HOLIDAY

One thing that very few people enjoy is Christmas shopping, and given the madness of last minute shopping, why not give all Queenslanders a day off in November or December to get on top of that list that needs to be checked twice.

NOMINATE YOUR NEW QUEENSLAND PUBLIC HOLIDAY BELOW

We can’t think of any more, but maybe you can. Suggest away for your suggestions for a new Queensland Public Holiday.
