The Gurgler readers have spoken, and Margaret Court has been voted in as the Jerk of the Month for June 2017.
The former Tennis legend was nominated for her outspoken views on the current state of Tennis and life in general with most of her vitriol being aimed at the LGBT community.
Of course some of that can be summed up by her post-Tennis career serving up the good book, but really the bigger issue is the overuse of the retired sporting personality in getting controversial soundbites for the shrinking attention span that is modern news.
We provided a solution to this problem by suggesting that all former sports personalities are required to be licensed before given an opinion which can be used in sport reporting. More on that can be found here.
Either way, her rubbish has won over the readers of The Gurgler, and she has earned her Jerk of the Month award for June 2017.
Speaking of retried sports personalities, once again Nick Kyrgios has missed out on the top monthly prize despite featuring high in the voting again. With Wimbledon starting next week, we are very confident there’ll be plenty of reasons to receive yet another nomination.
Equal in second place were two sets of people that regularly deal in garbage. One is the hard rubbish scavengers who clog the streets with complete ignorance of the locals for the week leading up to collection, the other is Channel Nein’s Origin Commentary team. You could argue that both groups are recycling the same crap over and over again.
Only halfway through the year and there’s still many a Jerkto be nominated and voted upon.
