Kick to Come – NRL Round 10 Preview powered by Brad Tessman Formal Wear

Welcome to The Gurgler’s Kick to Come – our NRL Round 10 preview.

The NRL have a hard job this weekend to better the International weekend, but we have more on that below.

They’ve tried their hardest this week though. With a double header at Suncorp, and some reasonable match ups elsewhere. You have to wonder though about how the local derby between Dragons and Sharks fails to make FTA again. Especially since the two sides are from Sydney, if you know what we mean.

Enjoy the goodness whilst it lasts, the Origin affected period is just around the corner, as the NRL comp turns to arse for 8 weeks.

Onto our weekly Kick to Come NRL Round 10 Preview.

Each week we ask the big question in rugby league and answer them ourselves, mainly because no one else will. We attempt to preview each game in less than 20 words. We also provide our “best bets” on the weekend action and our tipping competition. And we indulge ourselves with something stupid, obscure or slightly time wasting, the backbone of this website.

THE NRL ROUND 10 PREVIEW MATCH BY MATCH IN 20 WORDS OR LESS

Less is more in this day and age with rapidly shrinking time and attention spans, and so we have settled for less and tried to preview each game in less than 20 words.

THURSDAY – BULLDOGS v COWBOYS
Cowboys – Thurston = Shite. Morgan proving no wizzkid without him. Bulldogs to take advantage.

FRIDAY 6pm – DRAGONS v SHARKS
 2nd v 3rd. Local derby. Friday 6pm? NRL sucks.

FRIDAY 8pm – TIGERS v RABBITOHS
First 2017 clash all about Farah, now no one seems to care about him or Souths.

SATURDAY 3pm – PANTHERS v WARRIORS
Is this the week the Panthers turn promise into competition points? Playing Warriors at home is the perfect opportunity.

SATURDAY 5:30pm – STORM v TITANS
Suncorp Double Header 1 and the Storm have some kind of record in Brisbane. Titans should be worried, but they did give it to Broncos earlier in year at same ground.

SATURDAY 7:30pm – SEA EAGLES v BRONCOS
Suncorp Double Header 2 and the away side is the home side and will have the most support. The double header provides 3 sets of fans to hate Manly.

SUNDAY 2pm – KNIGHTS v RAIDERS
Could this be a sneaky second win for the Knights. Sticky aka Carlos Smearson is due an explosion.

SUNDAY 4pm – ROOSTERS v EELS
Looks a great game on a Sunday 4pm for a change. Mitchell Pearce looking to write his name into Qld Origin folklore with another big game.

THE BIG QUESTION FOR THE NRL ROUND 10 PREVIEW

Q. Is the International Round a waste of time or worth keeping?

A. Of course. It provides something different from the NRL, and gives some of the developing nations and under appreciated competitions their time in the sun, which is no less than they deserve.

Plus it gives the PNG Kumuls the Top Billing they deserve. Just a shame their fine win over the Cokk Islands didn’t feature Willie Minoga, Gurgler Person of the Year 2015 and face of the PNG World Cup Team in their recent ad campaign.

It shows that the  NRL can survive a week off, so we say give us 3 x standalone Origin weekends, with Pacific Tests on the Friday and the interstate clash on the Sunday.

NRL EXTRA BIT – WHICH TEAM HAS HAD THE MOST JERSEYS IN THE PAST TWO YEARS?

With the NRL’s Indigenous Round doubling up as NRL Round 10, and yet another lot of jerseys being churned out, the mind tends to wander and wonder about how many bloody jerseys the NRL churns out.

We are not against the Indigenous Round, it is a tremendous idea to celebrate the Indigenous’ impact to the game and some of the very best players of all time. But when you see another jersey being unveiled, you tend to wonder about the NRL’s love affair for another potential sale of a replica shirt rather than the actual reason for the round. Their very worst idea is the Marvel Heroes Round, which is by far the most blatant cash grab in Australian sport. Could the NRL have a celebration or commemoration round without flogging off new jerseys? Probably not.

But enough of that, it’s time to unveil which team had the most NRL jerseys of the past two years.

Team Jerseys
Broncos 12
Bulldogs 11
Dragons 11
Tigers 11
Storm 11
Roosters 11
Cowboys 11
Warriors 11
Panthers 10
Raiders 10
Sea Eagles 9
Knights 9
Rabbitohs 9
Titans 9
Eels 9
Sharks 8

THE GURGLER’S NRL TIPPING COMPETITION

Each week we will supply our tips for the week ahead, plus take on some guest tipsters. They are likely to determined by a ridiculous method. Will arse beat class? Probably. Pity we’re neither.

We have done it for the EPL, but next to none reads it. So we hope to get at least half of those people for the NRL tipping.

It is like the BBC EPL Tips of Lawro vs Someone Else, but stupider.
