Our Look at the Intrust Super Cup Round 8

Anzac Day weekend is here and so is a big weekend of Intrust Super Cup Round 8.

The now annual clash at Burleigh between the Hunters and the Bears is on, and on previous editions is a must watch if the QRL have a Live Stream, and they usually do for Hunters away games.

Round 8’s big clash ladder-wise is the one at Dolphin Oval between 3rd placed Redcliffe and competition leaders Sunshine Coast.

Not forgetting that Intrust Super Cup is your only way of seeing any rugby league in South East Queensland this year on a Sunday. And there are many games on offer around town this weekend. There’s a great chance to see some good football in a comfortable timeslot.

Below then is our quick preview of all that awaits in the Intrust Super Cup Round 8.

Intrust Super Cup Round 8 Preview of Games in 25 words or so.

People barely have time for anything these days so we try and sum up of all this weekend’s games in a sentence or so to save you time.

Mackay Cutters v Easts Tigers at BB Print Stadium Mackay on Saturday – 6pm

Easts Tigers are looking as good as they have for many a season and are equal on points at the top with the Sunshine Coast. A weak link in previous seasons was not winning north of Rockhampton but have put that right so far winning in Townsville a few weeks ago. Mackay three wins in 2017 is only one short of their 2016 tally.

Wynnum Manly Seagulls v CQ Capras at BMD Kougari Oval on Saturday – 6pm

Two sides in need of a win. Capras haven’t won since Round 4, and Wynnum Round 3. Wynnum have won just one of three at home, and were held to zero last time out against Redcliffe.

Souths Logan Magpies v Ipswich Jets at Davies Park on Sunday – 1.40pm

Ipswich broke a five game losing streak last weekend in Cairns, but the waiting Magpies have scored 40+ in their last 3 games.

Redcliffe Dolphins v Sunshine Coast Falcons at Dolphin Park on Sunday – 2pm

First v third between the competition’s two tightest defences. Both of these sides are the only sides to concede less than 100 in 2017. Former PNG Hunters Thompson Teteh and Justin Olam will be worth keeping an eye on.

Burleigh Bears v PNG Hunters at Pizzey Park on Sunday – 2.05pm

This traditional Anzac Day clash never disappoints, and Burleigh now in form after two straight wins. Hopefully there’s a live stream available.

Norths Devils v Northern Pride at Bishop Park on Sunday – 3pm

Norths led the competition two weeks ago and are now out of the top 6 after two straight losses. The Pride have won just twice in 2017 and will be on the edge of realistic finals calculation if they lose here.

Townsville Blackhawks v Tweed Heads Seagulls at Jack Manski Oval on Sunday – 3pm

Tweed Heads have now got their first win for 2017. Townsville have lost three of their last four, but should get the job done on Sunday.

PNG HUNTERS CORNER

Each week we have a little extra on the PNG Hunters, our favourite sporting side. Or check out our season preview or check out the PNG Hunters 2017 draw bit if you’re planning on catching them around the state this season.

The Hunters responded to the disappointing loss to the Falcons as they toughed it out against the Redcliffe Dolphins in Port Moresby. The 12-10 win keeps the Hunters in the Top 4 and on the heels of the competition’s leaders.

This weekend sees the big Anzac Day weekend game between Burleigh and PNG, and we can’t wait. All previous editions have been super games, and thanks to the Live Stream on offer by the QRL.
