Welcome to The Gurgler’s Kick to Come – our NRL Round 6 preview.
We are truly starting to get league-tigued already. Maybe too much rugby league is more than enough. We only caught 6 of the 8 games last weekend. Dropping the 4pm Sunday game of course. Pffft to Channel Nein.
Thankfully there’s been enough off field action during the week to get one excited and back on the horse of NRL.
Onto our Kick to Come NRL Round 6 Preview.
Each week we ask questions on the round ahead and answer them ourselves, mainly because no one else will. We also provide our “best bets” on the weekend action and our tipping competition. And we indulge ourselves with something stupid, the backbone of this website.
TOP 5 QUESTIONS FOR THE NRL ROUND 6 PREVIEW
Q. What is wrong with the NRL market when Mitchell Moses is offered a $1M a year contract and knocks it back?
A. Plenty. Even if the Salary Cap gets to $9M in 2018 (which it won’t) how on earth is Mitchel Moses worth 1/9th of a squad’s budget. Then he knocks the Tigers offer of it back and wants an immediate release to Parramatta. They must be really happy they let Blake Austin and Te Maire Martin go to keep him. This situation is what is wrong with the entire system of recruiting and retaining players. NRL Sucks. Simple solution. Off season trade period, Mid Season transfer window for those with the shits. Simples.
Q. Where will Cooper Cronk go?
A. Nowhere. Retirement and Fox League.
Q. If the Broncos lose, is a 2-4 start to the season time to start panicking?
A. If they perform like they did during Origin last year, then yes. For all their great defence and close finishes, they seem unable to win games.
Q. How on earth does Des Hasler go from one game away from sack to re-signed for 2 years after one win against the Broncos in the rain?
A. Hard to figure. What happens if they lose to the Knights this weekend?
Q. Will the Panthers miss the naughty trio or Tyrone Peachey more?
A. Probably neither if Bryce Cartwright comes back.

THE GURGLER’S NRL TIPPING COMPETITION
Each week we will supply our tips for the week ahead, plus take on some guest tipsters. They are likely to determined by a ridiculous method. Will arse beat class? Probably. Pity we’re neither.
We have done it for the EPL, but next to none reads it. So we hope to get at least half of those people for the NRL tipping.
It is like the BBC EPL Tips of Lawro vs Someone Else, but stupider.

NRL ROUND 6 PREVIEW – GUEST TIPSTER 1 – WHICH MOST INTERESTING FAN IS THE MOST INTERESTING
BRONCOS (Bush Tucker Man) to beat Roosters (Scott Cam)
A man who’ll eat anything is more interesting than anyone involved in reality TV.
KNIGHTS (Jennifer Hawkins) to beat Bulldogs (Waugh Brothers)
As great as the Waugh brothers were, they’re hardly what you call interesting.
PANTHERS (Mick Fanning) to beat Rabbitohs (Russell Crowe)
Someone who punches a Shark is more interesting than someone who punches other people.
DRAW – Manly (Tony Abbott) v Dragons (Macca All Over)
Neither are very interesting. One of them has an excuse.
RAIDERS (Mark Webber) to beat Titans (Bernard Tomic)
Webber was nothing if not interesting, Bernard Tomic is a Jerk.
COWBOYS (Bob Katter) to beat Tigers (Anthony Wiggle)
Close contest as both are very interesting. The Member for Kennedy is slightly more, especially in his hat.
WARRIORS (The Mad Butcher) to beat Eels (Ray Hadley)
Surely a man who has been knighted call the Mad Butcher is interesting. Surely Ray Hadley is not, to put it politely.
STORM (Molly Meldrum) to beat Sharks (Jumpin’ Jai Taurima)
Another close race. Molly just shades it.
