Kick to Come – NRL Round 3 Preview – powered by Steele Retchless Workwear

Welcome to The Gurgler’s Kick to Come – our NRL Round 3 preview.

The second Round of the NRL saw a first win for the Knights in nearly a year or so, Souths proved they don’t need Greg Inglis, Penrith and Wests Tigers turned around their Round 1 performances,

We’ve already discussed that a few days earlier with our recap of Round 2.

But that’s last week, and this week is…this week.

Each week we ask questions on the round ahead and answer them ourselves, mainly because no one else will. We also provide our “best bets” on the weekend action and our tipping competition. And we indulge ourselves with something stupid, the backbone of this website.

SOME QUESTIONS FOR THE NRL ROUND 3 PREVIEW

Q1 – How long until the Roosters earn the tag “Real Deal”?

A – Not long if they keep going like they did in Round 1.

Q2 – Are the NZ Warriors any better in NZ as the away side?

A – Yes 2-0 as the away side in NZ.

Q3 – You think Channel Nein are pissed they still don’t get Hayne?

A – Hope so. Perhaps start sharing the Sunday games and you might get him more often. Clowns.

Q4 – Can Newcastle make it two in a row?

A – Depends which Souths side shows up. Newcastle are looking good though.

Q5 – Can we call Roosters v Penrith the Gus Gould Cup?

A – Ummm, no.

Q6 – How long until Trent Barrett is turfed?

A – Probably not long. If the Cowboys pull their pants down on Saturday it might be speeded up. although they were very good against Souths early last weekend.

Q7 – Canberra on a Sunday afternoon at 4pm?

A – Surely it is Origin time? No?

Q8 – Have the Dragons peaked too early?

A – Hopefully not for their fans, but a nice feisty derby win will be a great start.

BONUS QUESTION – How bad is that TAB ad with the Bon Jovi song?

Real bad. Only one thing worse than Bon Jovi, a stupid ad where it is being sung. Not funny or good. A lot like this website.

NRL FUN TIME

Each week we’ll attempt to come up with something fun or slightly interesting. Although we will fail most weeks, that shouldn’t stop you continuing on.

BEST POTENTIAL HEAD TO HEAD CUP NAMES

Like the Chappell-Hadlee or Border-Gavaskar Trophies, we look to come up with a name for a potential trophy for each game this week. Instead of best players from each club like the Cricket reward, we’ve come up with the best name for a player who has played for both clubs. And like most things we do be bypass most of the obvious ones for the more obscure, and fun.

Storm v Broncos – The Richard Swain Shield
Bulldogs v Warriors – The Krisnan Inu Cup
Titans v Eels – The Where is Hayne Plate
Knights v Souths – David Fa’alogo Trophy
Panthers v Roosters – Nigel Gaffey Tri Series between Panthers, Roosters, Raiders
Cowboys v Sea Eagles – Owen Cunningham Cup
Raiders v Tigers – The Fritz/Payten Medal
Sharks v Dragons – Lance Thompson Trophy

THE GURGLER’S NRL TIPPING COMPETITION

Each week we will supply our tips for the week ahead, plus take on some guest tipsters. They are likely to determined by a ridiculous method. Will arse beat class? Probably. Pity we’re neither.

We have done it for the EPL, but next to none reads it. So we hope to get at least half of those people for the NRL tipping.

It is like the BBC EPL Tips of Lawro vs Someone Else, but more ridiculous.
