Brisbane Monopoly Places Announced – It’s All There Except Doboy

It has taken a while since the fanfare of the Brisbane Monopoly idea took off, but the official announcement of the Brisbane Monopoly places was unveiled today. To even more fanfare. Lord Mayor Graham Quirk getting the first ceremonial roll of the giant dice.

No surprise at most of the Brisbane Monopoly places, although we originally presumed it was more about the famous streets than the places. Like the original Monopoly from London.

That also doesn’t surprise that our suggestions didn’t make the cut either. Although we stand by The Jinker Track and Space City.

For those who can’t be arsed following this link to a virtual tour of the Brisbane Monopoly places from the Brisbane Times, here’s the list below.

  • Mt Coot-tha lookout
  • Fortitude valley
  • Riverlife
  • City Hall Shingle Inn
  • Brisbane Showgrounds Ekka
  • Brisbane Markets
  • Queen St Mall The Myer Centre
  • Eagle St Pier
  • Eagle Farm Racecourse
  • The Gabba
  • Suncorp Stadium
  • QPAC
  • Queensland Museum
  • QAGOMA
  • Portside Wharf
  • Manly Harbour Village
  • Breakfast Creek
  • Tangalooma Island Resort
  • Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
  • The University of Queensland
  • Story Bridge
  • South Bank

Some are obvious like the Story Bridge and South Bank. Some required an explanation like Riverlife and City Hall Shingle Inn because we are ignorant, uncouth boobs. Others were met with a giant Meh. Like any museum or Shopping Complex.

Maybe we’re just bitter that none of ours made it on the list of Brisbane Monopoly places. Ok, we are simply bitter that none of ours made it on the list of Brisbane Monopoly places.

One thing we noticed was there was no Train Stations named in the list of Brisbane Monopoly places. With four places up for grabs, our hope is that oyer choice our train station – Doboy – can still make the list. We had originally called for support and got a handful of people behind us. Which is usually a handful more support than we usually get for our rubbish.

Maybe the makers of Brisbane Monopoly are trying to replicate the new Redcliffe line and wait 120 years before finally unveiling it. Which would be interesting to see how many of the current locations would remain.

We say, there’s still time to get behind the Doboy Station campaign, so do it now. Get on the Facebook page, ring up the 612ABC talkback, and contact your local councillor. Let Doboy be immortalised by being included amongst the Brisbane Monopoly places.

Whilst you can pre order the Brisbane Monopoly Game now, you can also enjoy The Gurgler’s alternative Brisbane Monopoly for Xmas. Coming soon, so stay tuned.
