Welcome to our preview of the English Football League.
The Gurgler loves the lower divisions of English Football, and despite no one else in Australia being interested in it, we still put our weekly thoughts on the web for all to peruse.
We have already gone through some of our favourite aspects of the English Football League. Like our favourite League One & Two mascots, favourite Championship mascots, an update on the Australians in the English Football League. But we have run out of ideas for this week, so what better time to do a quick overview of the season so far, than when you have nothing better to talk about. All in Fives of course.
5 Surprises of the season so far…
Newcastle United aren’t first in the Championship – Huddersfield are.
Barnsley. As unfashionable as an English Football League gets. Overachieving in 4th currently.
Just how bad Derby have got. Sure they weren’t to be trusted after recent chokes, but just six points and just two goals scored so far is bad paper.
League One top 5. Sheffield United in sixth is a name you would expect in the mix. But Bury, Port Vale, busted arse from 2015 Bolton and leaders Scunthorpe United are not the teams you’d expect up there already.
Adebayo Akinfenwa hasn’t helped Wycombe much. They lie just 19th.
5 Unsurprising things of the seasons so far.
Newcastle United are near the top of Championship. Norwich City are thereabouts.
Aston Villa are struggling. No surprise given how dreadful they were last season in the EPL.
Blackburn continue their awful form from last season and are bottom three.
Sheffield United are making hard work of promotion from the third tier.
Ipswich Town are stuck in the upper midfield with an almost equal share of Wins, Losses, Draws. just the way we like it.
