Sometimes we don’t know why we bother. Each week we provide a loving update of the Football League that no one reads. So instead of our usual preview we’ll take a look at the Australian players in the Football League Championship and then provide a quick catch up.
Sure we love it, but not many others do. Their loss anyways.
The Championship and their Football League cousins in League One and Two are the only live English Football Leagues shown on Foxtel these days. The quality is not bad either. Not top flight, but better than the A League.
We’ve even given multi tips worth 100-1 this season so far, but still no one is interested.
Apparently people would rather talk Aaron Mooy than Leyton Orient, Burton Albion and Swindon Town. Fair enough, Mooy is Australian. Crewe Alexandra are not. But he is just one of the handful of Australian players in the Football League Championship.
So for the first time this year, we provide an update of the Australian players in the Football League Championship. Timely too given Aaron Mooy is tearing it up for the table topping, and surprise leaders of the second tier Huddersfield.

Statistics courtesy of the great Who Scored website.
The Scored Rating is out of Ten. Perspective – the highest rated player in the EPL this year is Curtis Davies at 8.5.
AARON MOOY (Huddersfield Town)
Who Scored Rating: 7.28
Played 7
Goals 1
Man of the Match 1
Yellow Card 1
Apparently lucky the yellow wasn’t a red last start, he made amends with a wonder goal. Has been excellent in a team leading the Championship.
MASSIMO LUONGO (QPR)
Who Scored Rating: 7.23
Played 5
Yellow Cards 1
Australia’s Asian Cup hero is on the field, but games like the last start 6-0 loss at home to Newcastle makes it hard to shine.
JACKSON IRVINE (Burton Albion)
Who Scored Rating: 7.50
Played 6
Goals 4
Yellow Cards 1
Man of the Match 2
Going the best of the Aussies for newly promoted Burton Albion with goals and man of the match performances.
CALLUM ELDER (Brentford)
Who Scored Rating: 6.67
Played 6
At Brentford on loan from EPL premiers Leicester City, he was recently resigned by the Foxes showing their keenness to keep him on board. Getting plenty of game time with 8th placed Brentford.
MILE JEDINAK (Aston Villa)
Who Scored Rating: 6.77
Played 2
Assist 1
Yellow Cards 1
Australian Captain and Crystal Palace hero has moved to Aston Villa to get some game time. Has played twice for Villa, who are going marginally better than last year.
BAILEY WRIGHT (Preston North End)
Who Scored Rating: 7.25
Played 5
Made his league debut with Preston back in 2011, and still going with them in the Championship. 7.25 is a quality rating for a back.
