The Gurgler’s Look at the Queensland Intrust Super Cup – Round 4

BROUGHT TO YOU BY THIS WEEK’S QUEENSLAND CUP LEGEND – AARON BARBA

The first week of byes hits this weekend and despite the round having 28% less teams, that doesn’t mean there’ll be 28% less action.

There’s five games on the agenda, and at least three of those are available on either TV or Live Stream, plus with four games in SEQ and one in Townsville and a four day weekend and Monday off to recover, there’s never been a better excuse to see some Queensland Cup live or on a screen this weekend.

The full preview is with our friends at Nothing But League. Catch up with it all here.

WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND?

The top two from last year PNG Hunter continue on their unbeaten run, last year’s last and second last teams recorded good wins, Central over premiers Ipswich no less and doubling their tally of 2015 in the process. Easts treated TV viewers to a great comeback over Mackay and Burleigh great start to 2016 came down to earth with a big loss to the Sunshine Coast. And Redcliffe exacted a few seasons revenge over Wynnum and kept them without a win so far.

TEAM LISTS

The Team Lists for Round 2 are out and available in full here from the QRL. We have a few points below

  • The first thing we check is that #16 W. Minoga has been selected for the Townsville Blackhawks. He’s in, job done.
  • No major changes elsewhere

THE HUNT FOR PNG OCTOBER

Each week we’ll bring a brief update on our favourite team in this competition – the excitement machine that is the PNG Hunters.

The Hunters continue on their merry 2016 way as they kept their unbeaten run to start the season in tact, but only just. The Tweed Heads Seagulls were the first to visit the newly refurbished National Football Stadium, and they almost spoiled the party with a 20-18 loss that could have gone either way. This weeks they face their bogey side from 2015 – surprisingly the Sunshine Coast Falcons. The Falcons gave them their biggest defeat last season in this exact fixture, and were not far off the double in PNG. If they get over the improving Sunshine Coast, they set up a run to Round 6 when they face the Townsville Blackhawks.
