The Own Goal – EPL Edition

Unlike the selfish European players the EPL stars turn out on Boxing Day for our viewing pleasure, and the best thing is the rare occasion of all teams playing on the same day. This includes a big bunch of game at the 3pm UK timeslot given almost too much choice of what to follow in the wee small hours in Australia after enjoying the Boxing Day sport on offer during the day.

With Leicester top of the table, most are awaiting their fall from grace, although it looks less likely each week, and at a minimum no team has ever had this amount of points and missed the Top 4. It’s great too for fans of lower EPL or even Football League sides as Leicester haven’t spent too wildly getting to their current position.

In any other year the talk at this point would be Watford’s form in which they have won 4 in a row and are currently 7th. For the side that slipped under the radar after all the fanfare of Bournemouth it is an outstanding job. Even considering the turnover of managers there. Fellow promoted side Bournemouth are in great form too having beaten Chelsea and Manchester United in consecutive weeks and sit 14th. Norwich have a lot in common too, out of the bottom three, and have beaten Manchester United but this time at Old Trafford.

That loss to Norwich has put the Manchester United boss in trouble, and the stress was showing after he stormed out of his press conference during the week. All the talk is now focusing on who will replace and the recently ousted Jose Mourinho is one of the favourites. Although it is hard to imagine him on the Old Trafford sidelines.

At least it will give a side attraction to the football, not that it will be needed this boxing Day.
