Is there a better name to say in sport than Semi Radradra, Warren Smith from Fox Sports will probably say no, and he’d be right. But keeping the rhythm and melody of his surname aside for the moment, let’s not forget his on field talents.
Somehow, in an NRL side that was at best underwhelming and at times poor, Semi Radradra topped the try scoring list in 2015 with 24, beating Curtis Rona by 2 and another group of players a full 5 tries further back. Some kind of achievement. Also worth noting was a lengthy absence during the season to injury.
Semi just loved scoring tries, this excited the commentators to go wild with a big Radradra, which in turn excited The Gurgler. Semi produced the only thing worth watching during several games this season, a shocker between Penrith and Parramatta springs to mind, and it felt that something might just happen with every carry of the ball from the Fijian flyer. Sometimes it felt like that was all the Eels had in 2016. He certainly outshone the highly rated ex-NSW Origin Will Hopoate.
Defence was never the strong point, but when someone offers so much in attack, who cares about defence. We don’t, we just love Semi scoring tries.
So as if he needs another accolade to go with his Try Scoring feats, it’s here with his Gurgler Person of the Year nomination.
