After a long and thoroughly enjoyable season of covering the Intrust Super Cup aka Queensland Cup aka Grassroots Goodness aka Mack Truck Minoga Magic Cup for www.nothingbutleague.com, we’ve reached the pinnacle with the Grand Final on Sunday.
And, a much as we are looking forward to it, and we are, if we’re honest there’s a little shade of disappointment that we’re not talking about the PNG Hunters’ participation. Never mind, although the QRL should think about this…if the Hunters made the Grand Final they could get an extra 10,000 people to Suncorp Stadium based on their popularity in PNG and Queensland. 10000 x $20 entry fee almost covers the amount to televise a final in PNG according to the QRL. A Home final for the Hunters gave them every chance. Sure it wouldn’t have stopped them dropping the ball but would have given a great preparation and just reward for finishing one point off a dominant minor premier.
Luckily for the QRL they still have Ipswich in the final. Not that Townsville aren’t interesting and deserved finalist for those who have followed the Intrust Super Cup but for the casual league fan and sports enthusiasts the Walker brothers devil may care attacking attitude will get more interest.
The Gurgler will be there on Sunday and encourage all in the area to do the same. Here’s why.
It will be a great game between two varied and excellent sides.
It is a rare Sunday afternoon game in Brisbane.
It is just a Twenty to get in and there’s four games if you have the time.
And, MASCOT OLYMPICS.
It may not be Archerfield or a Saturday night or 7pm BUT be there.
