The Own Goal – The Gurgler’s UK Football Weekly

Three of the big English clubs return to the League this weekend licking their wounds after losses in the Champions League first round of fixtures. Only Chelsea have bragging rights after their 4-0 win against powerhouse Israeli side Haccabi Tel Aviv, and that will give Mourinho a rare smile so far in 2015-16 as his team sit just outside the bottom side in the League.

That smile is likely to remain as the big game of the weekend is Chelseas v Arsenal, and whilst Arsne Wenger got one over his most fierce rival in the pre season game at Wembley his record otherwise is poor, and the timing of the usually one sides matches may give Mourinho the kick on he needs. But Arsne Wegner will be quite happy to extend Chelsea’s misery with a win.

The Manchester sides only get it slightly easier as both are playing two of the up and comers in the League in West Ham and Southampton. Just Leicester are the only non current Champions League team in the top 4 at the moment, and given their current form they might just hang in their for while longer, and a dreaded Europa League berth awaits.

Talking of Europa League, there is a whole range of games being played tomorrow morning Aust time, featuring a few UK teams, and a whole bunch of European stars. Interest will lie in whether the UK teams can back up. Liverpool are one of those sides and they are under enough pressure as it is.

Pressure is building in the north east too as Newcastle and Sunderland are dead last and second last on 2 points and zero wins. A sad sign of how bad things have got for Sunderland is that they are $5.50 outsiders against the recently promoted Bournemouth, who haven’t set the world on fire just yet. In saying that Bournemouth will probably come out and destroy Sunderland.

We’re not all about the EPL, we have a full preview of the Football League’s three divisions, but it’s just on another website and we can’t be bothered typing it twice. Catch up now here at The Roar.

Enough bla bla bla, it’s time for the all important tips for the weekend ahead.
